Two Liberty Place
Philadelphia, USA
HEIGHT: 258m/846 feet
FLOORS: 58fl
COMPLETION: 1990
ARCHITECT: Murphy/Jahn Architects
Two Liberty Place is one of Philadelphia’s premier office towers. The property is part of the Murphy/Helmut Jahn designed Liberty Place Development, which also includes the nearly identical One Liberty Place, a 1.2 million square foot office tower, a 144,000 square foot upscale retail concourse, and a Westin Hotel.
The property is located in the Market Street West submarket between Market and Chestnut Streets in the heart of Philadelphia’s CBD. The location offers superb conveniences with its close proximity to hotels, the finest retail on Walnut Street and the City's most exquisite dining options at Rittenhouse Square. Access to public transportation is excellent with the 30th Street Station nearby and Suburban Station within walking distance of the property, both of which offer service to Philadelphia’s International Airport and SEPTA commuter rail services.

Love it's design and colours and how it thins towards the top.
In some ways, it is quite similar to Chicago's Two Prudential Plaza.

I'm not sure why, but I dont like it much. Maybe its becos it seems fat at the base or it just looks inferior next to One Liberty.
The only good thing is the facade.

Still PoMo gem, but not nearly as well proportioned as One Liberty, which isn't proportioned all that well itself. Both are much too portly.

8/10 - I like the facade that dances with the light, but while the spire and setbacks are nice, the building is too chunky, especially with that "bustle" on one side - they needed to make a larger base and a slimmer tower. And did they run out of money before they finished the spire?
Not bad, but not as impressive as its twin.

reminds me of the Two Pru in Chicago...but it's more stubby than the one in Chicago...and 1 Liberty has a better design but overall I'd give it an 8/10..

I think it is too massive at the bottom, they should of started slimming it out way before. The bottom is not all that great, but I do appreciate the top of the building. 7.0/10

It looks clunky and awkward from some angles, and sleek and dominating from others. That "knub" spire has always irritated me but I still love the building. It was actually the first "skyscraper" I ever recognized during it's construction.

Maybe it could be more slimmer,it just looks too wide
7.0/10 for being modern

It's not really fair to compare this building to the masterpiece that is One Liberty Place... if One Lib didn't exist... I'm sure everyone would be raving about this fine looking skyscraper... It's a bit chunky on the bottom... giving it a wedding cake appearance from some angles... but it's really a classic design through and through... great top... doesn't need a spire...

The Massive setback and the asymmetry it forces bothers me. Not a huge fan of the "glass crysler" look, but its still really good. Color and facade look cheap and boring to my eyes. Still an unusually successive building. Nice in a pair.

Here's a no brainer
10/10
-- But really, the reason I love this building is two fold -- it was a twin, which to me in Philadelphia at the time was a revolution to have fraternal twin towers... well before Emerits, Overseas Bank Center, etc

^ Are the roof heights of 1 and 2 around the same? When you see them in person, it seems that they look about the same heights, with the exception of 1's spire.
LibertyTwo
July 28th, 2004, 03:27 PM
about 270 meters in 1LP and 259 is 2LP - although I cannot seem to find exact stats on 1LP without the spire...it is though slightly taller, 58 storeys in 2LP to 61 in 1LP
2LP is (or was at least - it changed only recently when Cigna sold a portion of it's company to Ace) wholly occupied by Cigna Corp, a large insurance comapny in the US
1LP has the spire on it which obviously, since it is ornamental and a "functional part of the structre" counts towards its total height of 288 meters
2LP is 259 meters, which oddly is a common number in large buildings, Rockerfeller Center (GE), Messturm, Transamerica Pyramid, are all about that same height.
You are following me around today Naptown ;-)

7.5/10. 2 Liberty Place also looks sweet with its 3-year-older sibling, One. One point off for the top because unlike One it looks stubby as a finger; another point off for falling 152 feet short of the 1,000 foot tall goal; half off for not matching up with One in height and falling 100 feet short.
One Liberty Place and Two Liberty Place really dwarf the view of City Hall; William Penn must be turning over in his grave in disgust.

Kind of emphasizes the wrong things with One Liberty Place.
This time really too broad, and for the decoration, it's as if this one was a cheapened version. The short spire is just unneeded.
Let's say the other one would not exist, it would then be decent, but not very good.

Definitely one of my all time favourite office towers. I love the classic style crown at the top and the thin, elegant spire that tapers into the sky. And the facade is just fantastic. The geometric shape of the building that allows every floor to be unique. I love it.

Top class. Philly has a gorgeous little collection of mid city towers. Liberty Place is what office towers should look like. 9.
