The other day that I went downtown I saw it for the first time and it is an amazing building, I was in shock that I have not heard more about it
it has an interesting deconstructivist architecture I think, even though I am not an expert.

The new $165.2 million home to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District 7 will feature 1,142 parking spaces, a vehicle repair shop and warehouse space. The design-builder is Main and First Design/Build Associates, an entity composed of contractor Clark Construction, Bethesda, Md.; design architect Morphosis, Santa Monica, Calif.; and architect of record Gruen Associates, Los Angeles

WoW!!That's an awesome looking building. Very different from the rest of the area. It rivals that of Disney Concert Hall for flare and irregularity. :)

Are they going to put another skin on the building? It's black, but the renderings make it look metallic/silver.

I think the building is almost completed but I don't remember seeing a metalic skin, just parts of it
but the whole side of the building reminds me of the really old old old cards used in the IBM mainframes from the early 70's :)

I don't really like it as much as I thought I would. Maybe I have to see it up close. I just don't think black buildings look all that great in LA.

The rendering's glass looks much shinier than the built one, nice shaped building.

Savvy,

I think that the building is pretty cool. It is "bold new modernism". It's a great building. Why doesn't it look good in IYO?

^It (and its architect Thom Mayne) is part of the reason LA is our nation's most progressive architectural city at the moment.
