Baldwin park is a former oil field and storm drain. It will be about 10 years before they can finish the park. They have 1/3 of the land. They are trying to buy the other 2/3s. Good thing about it is that it's in the not so "rich" areas of Los Angeles so its good for the locals. It's about 1500 acres. And it looks fantastic. It's the last of the big undeveloped lands in Los Angeles. It's a little bigger than the size of Balboa or Central park in SF and NY. LA is going on a park craze as of lately.

Click on the picture for a larger view and you can see what is actually in the park.

This a great thing for L.A. A new big park is very important for new development. It is a GREAT addition to L.A. How far is it from downtown L.A.?

It's about 10 miles from Downtown I think, so downtown LA is not going to benefit from this park. It's a very hilly area so its good for hiking. And its right in the center of the city so it will probably rival Griffith Park in that respect.

yeah it looks like the boundaries are. Jefferson on the north. Slauson on the south. Somwhere in Century City to the west. and La Brea to the east. I love the fact that La Cienga will go thru the park with a tunnel.

Sounds Great I hope it gets done.

Good news, is the land right now, just a wasteland?

Its an oil field. Environmental cleanup is going to be the most expensive part.

^I think it's cool that they will keep a part of the oil field. Thats a chapter in LA history that is kinda forgotton.

You know, from certain points you can see,(on a winter day) from Santa Monica to Whittier, (including brentwood, westwood, the golden mile, century city, the miracle mile, mid whilshire, and downtown, ALL AT THE SAME TIME, the best view of the Los Angeles basin possible. and all it's skyscrapers (this side of the hill anyway) tho i hope it has an aquifer, that's alot of irrigation we're talking about here. (recyceleable pond water, maybe!)

It would be cool. But I don't really like walking at parks :)
