So far everyone gave 10/10.....
It would be cool, I reckon if the Colosseum was transformed into a Soccer stadium with a soccer pitch in it and be the home ground of Roma........it would be awesome...
Maybe an idea for Roma to build a new stadium with the same structure as the colosseum, but with more modern materials.......how cool would it be? 50,000 people in the Nuovo Stadio Colosseum cheering on AS Roma.....

Colosseum reconstruction drawing :) :) notice the Velarium : the canvas roof could be put in place if needed and retracted afterwards. I think even for modern technology this would have been an amazing construction. In fact a few years ago historians tried to simulate how the Velarium would have worked and they had difficulty getting everything in place, even with modern calculations.... :) . The Gladiator-games may have had a reputation of being barbaric ,the building itself is beautiful and elegant.
http://www.capitolium.org/photo/az/img_22.jpg
Imagine sitting in the Colosseum almost 2000 years ago, you are in a crowd of 50 000 people ,it's a hot and sunny day and suddenly the roof starts to move and slowly covers the entire arena.Pure magic.... :runaway:

How can it even be rated? I mean, it cant be compared to anything else--nothing else can really compete with it historically or by design (except smaller versions, like the one in Arles, France pictured below).

about turning it into a new stadium for AS ROMA... I dont think a soccer pitch fits inside the Coliseum... also, its a but outdated now, since all spectators had access only to the bottom floors and then must climb to the top benches and floors already inside the stadium... while modern stadiums have big access ramps outside to make acess easier.

The Colosseum or Coliseum, originally known as the Flavian Amphitheatre (Latin: Amphitheatrum Flavium, in Italian Anfiteatro Flavio or Colosseo), is a giant amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome. Originally capable of seating 45,000-50,000 spectators, it was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles. It was built on a site just east of the Roman Forum, with construction starting between 70 and 72 AD under the emperor Vespasian. The amphitheatre, the largest ever built in the Roman Empire, was completed in 80 AD under Titus, with further modifications being made during Domitian's reign. [Wikipedia]

in terms of architecture it is impressive and very interesting. but as a symbol...maybe if our perception of europe is the blood and slain...the history of that building is not something to be proud of.anyway...
