Azadi Square, or freedom square. It's representing the fight of the Iranian people for their liberty.

Well, you actually answered my question. I really only wanted to know whether the Shah or Khomeini built it.

You can thank good ole Jimmy Carter for the loss of the Shah, the rise of the Ayatollahs and the year long kidnapping of American workers at the US Embassy in Tehran. The Shah was not a nice guy, with his Savak secret police, but far fewer people died under him than under Ayatollah Khomeini's squads of teenage soldiers who ran across Iraqi minefields, during the Iran-Iraq war, to clear them for real Iranian soldiers.

Yeah, the shah sucked the blood out of the iranian people, but they were still alive and, most important of all, they were... free?!

Yikes!
It's unique for sure..........but not pleasing to my taste. Not pleasing at all.
I'll give it a 5, but just for the sexual innuendo, which I'm sure was not intended. ;)

10/10. Azadi monument may be architecturally most creative monument in the world at present. BTW. Its by the same Parsi architect that designed and built the Lotus Temple in New Delhi.
