The Panathinaiko Stadium, widely known as “Kallimarmaro”, is the stadium where the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 were held.
On April 4th, 1968, European Basketball Cup was played here in front of 60,000 spectators, the largest crowd ever to attend a basketball match.

Who knows what kind of sports will be held in the future olympics. One thing is sure. In 3000AD the people will still perform the games here. :)

9!Wonderful stadium in a great condition
Actually i think it's in the wrong category...it was not constructed in the ancient times but for the first modern Olympic Games in Athens 1896...so NOT ancient

I actually knew that Giorgos, but since it was totally reconstructed from the remnants found in 1870 during the excavation, you can't actually say it was built in the ancient times.Don't know... maybe i'm right, maybe i'm not :|
Finally, i remember at the opening ceremony of the 1997 IAAF's World Championships there was a huge gate at the front side of the stadium (i think it existed also at the 1896 Olympic Games).
What happened to it???

hmm, I have no idea about the gate but it is an ancient stadium because its was designed in the ancient times and this is an architecture forum.
