it's a smaller one, but it has helped Downtown Detroit become a bigger destination and entertainment mecca. The inside of Detroit's is very beautiful and modern and amazing, IMO.

I've eaten at the one in Ottawa's Byward Market, the one in Corel Centre closed, as did the one in Toronto's SkyDome (now Rogers Centre). Although the HRC in Toronto at Yonge and Dundas (the second HRC ever, and the first in North America) recently remodeled, and looks pretty cool. Isn't HRC a little passé though? Like Planet Hollywood?

Most people (including myself) would presume it started in America before finding out.
it was started by expat americans living in london who were missing a good ol american hamburger. i've been to the original in london, the one in tivoli gardens in copenhagen, Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas, Riverwalk San Antonio, and countless others. Here is the one from my hometown on the famous 6th Street, Live Music Capitol of the World, Austin Texas ...

The capital of Italy, it has been said that modern Rome has one foot in the past and one in the present, with 2,000-year-old relics beside ultra-glam fashions and society. We mirror that feeling at our Italian Hard Rock location with an upbeat modern feel, super cool Hard Rock merchandise and a veritable colosseum of rock 'n' roll memorabilia. Looking to enjoy good food and wine? Be proud to partake of the fine dining at our world-class restaurant, where you'll find not just amazing meals to fit every appetite, but also wide windows on the Roman world. Our Cafe is the ultimate spot for people watching, a quintessential part of Roman culture. So when in Rome, whether improving your wardrobe or seeking out la dolce vita, visit the Hard Rock for everything an emperor would desire (chariot not included).

It's not really that sad, actually for the better...
I can only speak for the Florida ones.
The one in Ft. Lauderdale (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=4029499&postcount=38) was closed because they opened a huge complex in Hollywood (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=3936803&postcount=33) that cas casino, hotel, cafe, hard rock live, mall, etc.
In Orlando (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=4072099&postcount=41) they have the cafe, hotel, hard rock live. The vault was a store away from Universal Orlando, on International Drive that it wasn't going to succeed anyway.

Well lets say that in general this list represents something sad.
Florida is my second home, and I remember the good'ol days when there were only 4 HRCs in the State; Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami and Key West. I've been to all of them, and I personally prefer a restaurant in Sawgrass Mills than a huuuuuuge Casino & Resort and all that stuff. I'm not saying that I don't like the Seminole project in Hollywood (looks great, with a jazz club and everything), but for me HRC should mainly keep its focus on its cafes, but what do you expect?... that's business and now that they've succeeded they try everything else including hotels, casinos, resorts and who knows maybe cruise ships... I agree with you that in this case, the closing of Ft. Lauderdale was because something bigger took over, but 99% of the list above has nothing to do with this situation.
By the way I visited the old Orlando Cafe, which was demolished, haven't been to the "Coliseum of Rock" yet, bet it looks cool... :) Never saw the Vault, and as a matter a fact it didn't seem to convince people... (at least Orlando still has a cafe, who cares about the Vault... screw it!). :)
Tampa has a hotel now, but I haven't heard anything about a cafe yet... weird!
As for northern Florida, well they now proudly have their Destin cafe (good news).
They need one in Jacksonville now.
howdy!

How amazing is the one at the skydome. such a fantastic sight. I also watched Linking Park at the stadium while staying there. Did you stay in the hotel?
Does anyone collect badges from every hard rock cafe they go to lol ;) :)
Ive got over 11 now ... Manchester, Birmingham and London have still yet to be done would you believe it & there all in my own country
The Skydome's (or should I say ROGERS CENTRE) is not really spectacular, but it's not bad, it looks very classy and like most other Hard Rock Cafes, except it is only a single storey. LINKIN PARK!? Were you at that infamous Summer Sanitarium 2003 concert with Metallica, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, and Deftones? Don't ask me how my friends talked me into going, but I was there at that concert, quite the sickening environment there, lol! It was really crazy, more bad than good, the bands were good and all, was just the city that was the problem for me, and please don't ask about it. :) I never stayed in that hotel, thankfully, in fact I haven't been stayed at a hotel in that city in over 8 years or done anything there (fun) in 22 months. :)

Isn't HRC a little passé though? Like Planet Hollywood?. I don't think so. Planet hollywood was always tacky whilst I am always suprised at the memorabilia that they have in some HRC's - not to mention a quirky sense of humour - for example, I think in the Sydney HRC there is a poster/commemorative album for George Michael in the Men's toilets. The London one just blew me away with some of the stuff they had in there. Real rock history.

The Hard Rock Cafe in Minneapolis is across the street from First Avenue which is the city's most storied underground nightclub. First Avenue is where Prince first made a name for himself (Purple Rain was filmed there), and where the Minneapolis punk scene happened.
Whenever I see them across from each other I can't help but think "there is the real thing and then there is the bullshit".

Some people are too cool for Hard Rock...but the other 90% of the population isn't. The restaurants that have closed did so for a reason unrelated to the success of the company, just like any other chain. This a lively, positive thread, so why don't you take your sunshine elsewhere... :)

they closed a lot of HR in Canada.. Why?
The entire HRC empire was bought by the Seminole Indians in Florida.
Maybe they don't like Canadians

Back in march 2005 I posted about collecting HR Pins....I have just returned from another trip so here are some more to add to my collection...I feel frustrated to find out I missed a few when I heard there was a Hard Rock Cafe in Louisville Kentucky....and Baltimore.....I now have 2 New York Pins but the first was from the old cafe back in 2000..and this one from the Times Sq. location...For those not interested in Pin Collecting I know this must be a rivetting post!!! haaa  http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/1262/hardrockcafepins07smallpg3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Melbourne, Australia's Hard Rock Cafe has been located within the Historic Windsor Hotel. It has been announced the Hotel is about to be fully renovated and the Hard Rock has closed......But I am not sure if it will continue on a new site or ???? It's an addition to the closed down list?
