New bridge between Sweden and Norway opened today!

The day has finally come, the new Svinesund bridge between Sweden and Norway opened today. The bridge is a high speed four lane highway, and will reduce traffic on the current bridge.

Nice bridge ... But a bridge between Norway and Sweden, I guess it makes sense, but it sounds weird :D ... Could anyone show a map of the location?

The bridge is located in Svinesund, close to the Norwegian town of Halden. The bridge is an important part of the road link between Oslo and Copenhagen, and is also the most important road to Europe in Norway.

The bridge costed 675 million Swedish Kroner, wich is a bit less than $ 100 million. All of the project including the roads leading to the bridge and the junctions costed 1400 million Swedish Kroner.

Nope. They are both part of the Schengen area of Europe - no passports needed! (though they previously had free movement).

As you can see on that last map DenverDane posted the bridge is part of the E6 interstate. Europe has interstates too, you know. It's just that most countries don't mark the roads as such :(

I wish they had extended the railways on both sides of the border from Halden to Strömstad :( But well, you can´t get everything.


It is a really nice bridge indeed and another toll bridge in Sweden/Norway. Congrats to the Svinesund border region for a new feat of engineering and construction! :booze:
