Let's see the current state of the forums and check out the members around here.

So, all you gotta do is simply reply if you visit the LA forum consistently and if you want, state where you're from and some other notes or comments about the LA forum.

I'm from anaheim california, i visit the LA forum just about every day. I think we need to be more active on this forum, and we should educate people on what LA is really like, break the stereotype

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, and as this is my home town, (to be specific, I live and grew up in Venice) how it grows is a great concern of mine, not to mention that i have been a pipetrades construction worker for 26 years, (third generation) the year I was born, the City Hall was the tallest building in the city, and the tallest building under construction i remember seeing as a child, was the Union Bank tower, Back in 1966, (I was 6 at the time, i went downtown to work that day with my dad) I think that my interest in architecture, structural enginnering, and construction knowledge, can help the younger/student group's of enthusiast's, better understand the construction process, I like the feeling of a positive response to some info. i posted that was helpfull to someone. Learning is what it's all about.!!!

So i post on the Los Angeles forum the most, (i spend alot of time in the NYC forum, and the world construction update forum also)

The only comment i have about the LA forum, is that all the non construction threads should be in another forum, perhaps a "skybar" forum.?

I've been all over Socal.

Born in Los Angeles (Ceders Siani Medical Center) on October 24th, 1983.
Moved to San Diego when I was 4.
Moved back to Los Angeles when I was 14 (I lived in the Mid Wilshire area)
Moved to Riverside when I was 19. It's where I live now.
But I spend alot of time staying with my boyfriend who lives in Silverlake.

LA has such a beauty. I will always call this place home.

I live in downtown Los Angeles, in the Historic Core/Gallery Row. Despite a short break in the 90's, I've lived downtown since 1991. I've been all over Southern California, the U.S. and the world - and although I am a huge downtown booster, I love the greater Los Angeles area, from south Orange County to Malibu, from Manhattan Beach to Diamond Bar and everything in-between.

I visit this forum every other day and would probably visit more if there were more activity. Much like TICONLA1, I also like the feeling of a positive response to something I posted. I've seen some great pictures on this forum, read articles about this city's development that I might not have otherwise read, and it's been interesting hearing what people outside of Los Angeles really think of it.

Currently living in West Hollywood, moving to Downtown within the next two months, hopefully. I try to visit once a day, usually trying to find information on projects. I have to say that activity at SSP is better for LA info, but every now and then we get good info here first.

Born and raised in San Francisco. Along with my hometown, I think Los Angeles is a great city! The diversity and culture of L.A. is amazing. I can't wait to take my two girls down to your wonderful town.

I just started visiting this forum recently. I must say that some of the threads are very entertaining. I particularly like to read about the developing projects of the downtown area. What an exciting time it must be to live in Los Angeles.

Thanks and Cheers!!

Born: Fountain Valley, CA
Lived: Anaheim for a few months

Move1: Fountain Valley, CA. (Lived there from a few months old to 4 or 5 years)
Move2: Different house in Fountain Valley, CA (Lived here for a couple years)
Move3: Smaller house in Fountain Valley, CA (Lived here till I was 12)
Move4: Huntington Beach, CA (Still live here. I love it here. 20 years old now).

Huntington Beach is such an awesome city. Not as quiet as some of the other cities, but can be if you want it to. :) We have a great downtown and great pier. With a great beach.

More and more Vietnamese people are moving in to Huntington Beach. When I moved here, we were the only Vietnamese people on the new housing tract. Now its like half white and half asian (mostly Vietnamese).

Hey all. I come around the LA forum every so often, but more just to read and see what's up than to contribute. I spend most of my virtual time in the Northeast forum, and most of my real time between Baltimore (my hometown) and Miami (my place of residence). I really want to like Los Angeles, and I think I would actually want to live there someday, but I've been so brainwashed by the stereotypes that I have a lot more educating to do about LA.

Don't believe the negative hype about L.A.! I'm currently completing my graduate degree in NYC and L.A. gets hated on by people who know nothing about it.
I was born and raised in East L.A.--and very proud of it! :)
It's trendy people without their own opinion who overlook all of the wonderful qualities of living in and being a part of L.A., specifically, and California, in general.
It's not simply the weather that makes L.A. great, it starts with the people and they're showing the rest of the country and the rest of the world what progress means (political, social, educational, artistic, and otherwise).
I challenge anyone who denigrates L.A. to debate...but you'll have to go visit first before you can rant or spew negativity about my city (and don't assume you've visited if you've never, like most visitors, been east of the 101 Fwy , or south of the 10 Fwy). If you haven't visited Los Angeles and you are just repeating tired old hyped stereotypes, I really don't want to hear it. Entendido? Good. :) So many opportunities in L.A., so lacking in time am I.

I just realized that I have never posted on here. It's been a while since I have joined though.

Anyways,

I have lived in Los Angeles my whole life. I love it here. I love almost everything about it here- the atmosphere, the weather, the style, etc. LA will always be my primary home but I also want to live on the east coast. I think it's very different from here but I could get adjust to it very easily. NYC and DC are my two favorite east coast cities and I just love it there.

My thoughts about the forum- we need more members and we need more photos to keep us posted on the development in DT and other areas.

Hello everyone! I am originally from and have recently moved back to Los Angeles. I’ve been visiting these forums for about a year now, and have finally decided to take the plunge and join.

I have had the privilege to travel throughout the United States; including parts of Canada and Mexico. I can honestly say that Los Angeles is the one and only place that feels like home to me. It is far from a perfect city, but it’s our city. I am truly confident that Los Angeles has a tremendous future ahead of it, and I for one will do my best to support and see it out.

I’m looking forward to great conversations with everyone.

Hello everyone. Longtime reader first time poster. Born and raised in L.A. but I have seen a bit of this world. I love to travel but time and money tend to be short. I studied abroad twice (London & Madrid) and I loved every second of it. Funny thing is that I first got interested in this website/subject matter after I realized that this city that I know and love can be so much better. Got my undergrad in Anthro. at UCLA a year ago and I think I'm ready to pursue a career in urban planning. I was wondering if anybody out there can give me some healthy pointers. I want to get some experience under my belt before I possibly move on to Grad school. I thank you guys in advance and I hope to post soon and often.

Hello fellow skyscraper fans. Been reading the forums for some time now, and decided to finally start posting.

Lived in L.A. since 1989, but just moved to downtown in August 2005. I LOVE IT! Some people think I'm crazy, but I wanted the full urban experience. "So why don't you move to New York then???" I've heard dozens of people ask. Because, duh, the weather stinks there! Is it too much to want cool old buildings and a subway AND nice weather with them? Anyway, I'll be checking in over the course of the future and posting more stuff. I just got a digital camera, and I walk around downtown ALL THE TIME, so I'll throw some pictures on here eventually. Downtown on the comeback trail!

I shouldve posted here when i first signed up in February but i figure better late than never,
I'm originally from NY (YONKERS, baby!!) I'm 23 years old, I have lived in Los Angeles since 1994, been in some of the weirdest cities ever, Bellflower, Long beach, West Covina, now Pomona lol. I like going Downtown LA which i call the "the city" because I like going to skid row and broadway and walking around and seeing all the developments going on in the areas, feeling the somewhat vibrant and progressing atmosphere, its soo fun jaywalking in downtown but pigs are soo rampid I prefer Pasadena, anyhow I like skid row i like that grittyness yea its a sad look down there but hey it goes on all over the world like dat, If i have some spare cents I'll lace someone but other than that i just like talking to madd ppls down there they have alot of interesting stories and perspectives, I'm also in Pasadena my most favorite city in LA metro area I love that city with every heartbeat. I am in HOllywood and some areas of the valley and might head down to Long beach once in awhile. LA has alot of potential and I look forward to 5- 10 years when it will regain its status as a world-class area.

I found out about this site because i have been a "daily lurker" on SSP since early 2000 and unfortunately u have to have a real email not Yahoo, Msn or aol which totally sux but yea i found out about this site and here I am. I study architecture and have been drawing skyscrapers and structures since age 6 so its definetely something I want to pursue so thats why I have even more passion about developments going on not just in LA but the whole world. I need to get back to school so I can continue on my pursuit to an architectural career maybe next year.

Hi folks.

I have lived near L.A. (San Gabriel Valley) my whole life. Currently an engineering student. Came here because I like tall buildings, and to find out more about them, and transportation, and all sorts of other urban issues.

Oh, yeah, and Go Dodgers!

Living in the Arts District. I remember the Brew 102 building along the freeway opposite Union Station about 1960. Now I own 2 lofts in the Molino Street Lofts building, just a few blocks away. One of them is Dangerous Curve, an art gallery.

Greetings fellow Angels...
I've been lurking and browsing this board for the past couple of weeks, and I really enjoy the communication that is going back and forth.

Born and raised in Hollywood
Currently reside in Rancho Cucamonga
Looking to come back home and purchase my first piece of real estate downtown. And as a hopeful future resident of one of the South developments, I really look forward to some positive dialogue exchanges with a lot of you.

im from a small town in serbia (former yugoslavia). i constantly visit this site and especially the part about LA because i simply love LA and really hope ill move there some day. it kinda became a dream for me. the citys beautiful and i think people there are cool. i like there attitude.
you should really educate people on what LA is really like and break the stereotype. 95% of things i now know about LA i learned on this site. the stereotypical delusions are over exaggerated.
everybody thinks that people in LA all drive cars and shoot each other. that nobody reads books or go to the theatre. and tons more.
i would love to learn more about the LA attitude.

Hey, I'm from San Dimas, California, and I'm a lifelong Dodgers fan. My dad moved to Silver Lake from Cuba, and he's stayed here ever since. I'm not sure how my mom ended up in the city, but anyway . . . I'm a lifelong Dodger fan and go to every single Sunday day game.

My favorite thing about LA: the architecture of the freeways and the fact that the city is constantly growing/expanding/changing, and I can be involved in it.

My least favorite thing: I live far away from the beaches.

I guess I'm the newb here :) I heard about these forums several months ago but didn't register until this week.

I'm a Los Angeles native born and raised, from East Hollywood to be exact. As a kid in high school (John Marshall high in Los Feliz) seeing a new, tall building rising from the middle of the Downtown skyline and getting real excited about it, I knew I would fit in here :)

I've also been active in my community. I founded and am the leader of my neighborhood council in East Hollywood. You can visit the community's website here: http://www.easthollywood.net

I'm also a rail/transit buff and am "famous" on the internet for making the first webiste about our Metro Rail system, a lot of sites link to it. It also hlpes that I live but three blocks from the nearest Red Line station :)

I've never lived anywhere else but I've traveled around the US, Europe and Asia. Why do I love living here? It's not the weather, I just take that for granted :) But the fact that nothing is etched in stone here, there's a lot of opportunities to do new things and try out nrew ideas...I feel places like NYC, you have to conform, but not here.

And as for someone a few posts ago looking for the Trojans, I'm one right here! USC alum (Fight On!) I'm also a bigtime lifelong Dodger fan and looking forward to next season (If anyone wants to chip into a season ticket pool and share a couple seats, get in touch with me!)

Oh yeah, one more thing, just to let you know. I find the following terms to describe Los Angeles offensive: "La-La Land" and "Out Here."

Hey fellas! I have been a long time reader but was always to busy to register. I have been busy reading all of these posts, and I mean EVERY post-every thread. Gosh, it has taken a long time! Anyways, I registered yesterday, when I realized I had read everything. So far so good. I feel like I know everyone because I have done so much reading.

I was born in Chicago, moved to L.a when I was 2. Lived here ever since. My brother still lives in Chicago with his step dad, and visit there alot. Thats how I started getting into the L.A cheer squad. He was always talking about Chicago. Chicago this Chicago that...blah blah blah. So then I started...L.a this, L.a that!

Anyways, I love the urban life. I have done a lot of travel. I have even lived in El Salvador for 2 years! (I don't recommend it unless you bring bullet proof vest, and insane life insurance policy) I have recently been to Greece, Italy, Turkey. That was amazing. I love to read about skyscrapers, Metro projects, gosh anything that has to do with that, is cool ,especially if it's in L.A.

These are also some of the things I like to do for fun. I like asking, wondering what tourists think of our city. I love being the tour guide of this beautiful place when friends & family come into town. But, my favorite is hard to see, kind of rare and it happens once in a while. It's when you see a out of state car driving in the city, they take a turn around a corner and then see Downtown L.A in the distance. You can then just sometimes see them point to it, in awwwwwwe. Man that's cool. They are impressed with our skyline. I like that. Anyways, sorry it's long but that's me.
P.s
I'm 27 and live in Palmdale, ca. but work in Pasadena.

I take the Angeles crest highway(2) across the San Gabriel Mountains everyday. It takes about 1 hour 10min. one way. It's cool because sometimes on the way to work it snows. Oh, and I once was held up because there was a bear in my lane. Really, a bear!

By the way there are some amazing views from up there as you come down into the la basin. It's amazing. Especially at night. You can see D.t.L.A clearly, and on clear days the ocean. They have talked about building a tunnel with rail to Palmdale from La Canada. It would take 20min from Pasadena, and connect the Palmdale Airport!!!! Cost 3-6 billion dollars!! Toll $8-10 one way. Hell I'D PAY IT.

Semi-new here. My name is Matthew, and I work as an intern for the Riverside Planning Department.

I'm idealistic and naïve, but I think I have good ideas and good things to say. If I get out of line, smack me around a little and that should take care of it.

I'll probably be offensive at some point or another, and I apologize in advance.

Thanks.

I live in Woodland Hills, and have been for a long time; I have always been in Southern California. I post usually just in response to some other post, but I wish I had some vital information to warrant starting a new thread. Oh well, I am planning on taking some photos the next time I visit DTLA. I usually just pick some Saturday every now and then to take a Metro/walking trip to DTLA and eat at the Carl's Jr. at Macy's Plaza. But I hardly have much time...

Fern~Fern*
August 28th, 2007, 05:53 AM
You travel all the way to Downtown to eat at Carl's? I actually went there for lunch this week and the plaza is falling apart. Some serious makeover is needed and Carl's could hire a friendlier crew to deal with the lunch crowds...

BTW Welcome to the L.A. Forum, yeah 32 post later!!!!

I have lived in The OC for about 1.5 months now.

My family moved from Texas to Yugoslavia.

I was born in former Yugoslavia but fled what is now Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina with my family in 1992 because of the war. So from 1988-1992 I lived in Yugoslavia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

We went to live in Buffalo, NY with the rest of my family. From 1992- 1996 I lived in Buffalo. In 1997 I moved to Texas.

In 2000 I moved to Poland to live with my grandma.

I then went to live in Germany and The Netherlands between 2002 and 2005.

In 2006 I moved back to Buffalo. 2007 I moved 4 times. Last time was to here in October.

In the future I plan on moving back to Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina when I retire or before that.

Hi all,
Just thought I would introduce myself as I have been browsing these forums for a while now. I really love LA and have been lucky enough to visit 3 times now. I will be flying over next year to get married in California and really can't wait as we will be spending just under a month there. The photo's that you guys are posting are excellent and have re-kindled my love for your great city. Keep posting em!!! :)

Newbie here.

The DTLA Development and photography threads have been a daily addiction for a very long time... been lurking around long enough and thought it time to come out from the shadows.

Born and raised in LA. Grew up in Pacific Palisades and have lived in Venice for over 18 years now. Dad even used to work in what are now the Gas Co. Lofts on Flower and I used to run around those halls as a kid. It's great to see so much interest in community and the changes that this city has seen.

Thanks for the welcome and.... "Donuts, I told you I dont like ethnic food!" And, always a bit dubious of posting too much personal info online BUT can advise last year I did some consultancy work for a Kiwi company looking into law enforcement. Nothing too exciting but did get to spend some time with the BHPD! I am not a cop or a lawyer. Last there when Lane Garrett was sentenced and also had Orlando Bloom waiting in his car outside but didnt see either of them.
