HAH!! I was going on this board right now to make the EXACT SAME THREAD, WITH THE RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS as my favorite! You beat me to it.. ;)

But seriously, I love blasting the Chili Peppers cruising through LA on a hot day with my windows rolled down. No band screams the pure essence of Los Angeles like the Red Hot Chili Peppers do :D

Also, Blink 182 (another favorite) very much SOUNDS like San Diego as the Peppers SOUND like LA.

What a coincidence :D

I personally like playing Chili Peppers songs on the guitar. Some are pretty hard but once you practice it enough it gets easy ;)

System of a Down all the way!!!!! :righton:

AFI from the Bay Area are right up there with them.

Green Day and Blink 182 are also pretty cool.

I'm not big on rap but I do like West Side Connection.

Two of my all time favorites, Marilyn Manson and Disturbed are from outside of Cali.

Oops, I forgot to add Korn. They rock big time!!

Guns N' Roses! Axl and the band still live there, and the first show was in Los Angeles.

Agree... Sublime kicks ass!!!!

Reminds me of my summer trips down in Baja. Drinking on the road and then end up partying @ Papa's & Beer (Rosarito, Mexico) till 5am. Do you know it's legal to drink beer in a moving vehicle down in Mexico. As long as the driver is not drinking or has an open container it's OK.

 with some ice cold Corona Beer*

Personally, I feel that GNR was the last really good band to come out of California, Chilis aside. There were/are good ones like STP, Metallica, Black Rebel Motorcyle Club but it's GNR for me.

I'd put in order for my favourite California bands....easily......

The Doors
Guns N Roses
Jefferson Airplane
The Eagles

No one has mentioned Bad Religion, straight out of the SFV. They have been making good music since forever, atleast 20 years anyways. Also, even though many of the guys aren't from here, Weezer formed in LA. A couple of the guys from NOFX are from the Fairfax district. Offspring and Social D are both from Orange Country. SoCal definitely has a lock on "the best place to start a rock band", period!

Nothing wrong with the Go-Gos. I know Belinda Carlisle is a native as well as a few more of them. They're a bunch of really talented chicks and wrote some great songs. Without them there would be no Bangles, no No Doubt and they influenced countless other bands as well. Plus they filmed their first video at the Mulholland Fountain in Griffith Park!

And of course, The Doors.
