The world's first cast iron bridge (http://www.ironbridge.ws/) was built over the River Severn at Coalbrookdale in 1779. Its span is 30m and it was designed by Thomas Farnolls Pritchard en Abraham Darby III. The Ironbridge Gorge (http://www.ironbridge.org.uk/) (Shropshire, UK) is considered the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. In 1986 the area has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The town around the bridge is now called 'Ironbridge', a few miles south of the city of Telford.
