Well it certainly doesn't hold any records but at 13kms the Confederation Bridge linking PEI and New Brunswick is no small span. It might win for the most volitile conditions the way that the Northumberland strait jams up with ice in the winter.

Poor Japan.Its always forgotten.

It has the worlds longest span bridge, the Akashi bridge near Kobe.

The worlds longest undersea tunnel from Honshu to Hokkaido.Longer than the chunnel which I always hear on TV documentaries to be the longest.

The world's biggest city.Tokyo(32 million)

The world's fastest commercial train. The Shinkansen 500 series.

The world's largest bay crossing in an urban area. The aqua line linking Chiba to Yokohama.

I cant think of others but im sure there are plenty of them

BRIDGE RAFAEL URDANETA
MARACAIBO --- VENEZUELA

Bridge Rafael Urdaneta, bridge located in the state of Zulia, in Venezuela, on the natural channel that unites the lake of Maracaibo with the bay of the Tablazo. It was inaugurated the 24 of August of 1962. It receives his name in tribute to the military man and politician Rafael Urdaneta. He is one of the most spectacular world-wide scale bridges, with a length of 8,687 ms between "Punta Piedras" and "Punta Iguana", and 17.40 ms of wide, it is the prestressed concrete bridge but long of of the world. Account with four channels of circulation of automobiles and trucks, with five central sections of 235 mts of light, maintained by steel cables, and reaches a height of 45 ms on the level of the water, allowing the free passage of the great boats and originating tankers of the Caribbean Sea. It was designed in 1957 by engineer Italian Ricardo Morandi and made by the Public Work Ministry of Venezuela; their huge scale and the complexity of the systems of concrete prestressed needed the collaboration of professionals and originating technicians of several countries. It unites the city of Maracaibo with the Eastern coast of the lake. In this bridge is the greater monument of lights of Latin America and third of the world

The San Juanico Bridge is the longest bridge in the Philippines, with a length of 2 km. It crosses the San Juanico Strait, bridging the islands of Samar and Leyte.

It connects Tacloban City on the Leyte side and Santa Rita town on the Samar side. It offers many picturesque views, especially of the San Juanico Strait with its thousand whirlpools as well as the islets of the province. It is approximately 10 minutes from downtown Tacloban City and is accessible by passenger jeepney, bus, motorcab or private vehicle.

The longest bridge in the world is the elevated Bangna Expressway in Bangkok, Thailand. This six lane viaduct has a length of slightly over 55 km and has been built above an already existing highway. Although it doesn't cross any water or valley it is technically a bridge.

in fact, there are lots of "technical bridges" longer than 50km, such as elevated railway or expressway, especially in country and mountain area. so i think the water is necessary as a standard in this thread.:)

The longest passenger bridge in the world

Gatwick Airport, London, UK
The bridge, which opened in 2004, connects the North terminal and the sixth satelite pier and is tall enough for a 747 to pass underneath it. Designed by Wilkinson Eyre architects and with Erup engineers, it 646 feet long and 72 feet high. It has great practical use for London's second biggest airport (and the world's sixth) - with almost 35 million passengers per year - removng the need for 50,000 bus journeys.

Vasco de Gama Bridge

This is a showcase of styles in bridge design, being the largest in Europe. The 10-mile Vasco de Gama Bridge changes in form as it moves over the Tagus River into the horizon. The bridge is a joint venture of London-based engineering firms Kvaerner PLC, and Europe Etude Gecti, EEG, a Campenon Bernard SGE, Affiliate from Paris, France and assisted by various Portuguese engineering firms. The $1-billion bridge was completed on time for the opening of Expo'98 to accommodate visitors traveling by automobile from southern Portugal, Spain and other parts of Europe. This photograph was taken from the north banks of the Tagus near EXPO, the cable-stayed main span of the bridge is 534.8-feet long, supported by 573-feet high pylons and 192 cables. The bridge was designed to withstand an earthquake four times greater than the 1755 earthquake that devastated Lisbon.

The bridge destroyed by Katrina was the Interstate 10 Twin Span bridge, not the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway. The I-10 bridge crosses the lake further to the east and is about 8,600 m long. Construction is going on now on the $800 million replacement spans.

Additionally construction is beginning on the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America, the John James Audubon Bridge.

There's something very unsettling about these massive bridges. You can't just turn around or walk to the nearest gas station if you break down...

Yeah.. they had the advantage of building it on the ground and not really having to deal with it spanning over water haha

But let's see how this goes
