Quite nice modern design. I like the detailing on the back of the building. But for all the hype over it's height, its just a big needle on the top. That aside, very impressive.

It has good, soaring height, helped by the curves and vertical set backs, and looks especially slim and soaring from the "spire" side.

The curves and razor-sharp set backs also save it from the curse of drab, boring "box dom."

It has a fairly shiny facade, and I'll even give a few points for trying to move beyond the flat roof.

HOWEVER:

Having the roof rise towards the spire is a good idea, but it suffers from poor follow-through. They need some horizontal set backs at the top, not that silly little fence, and a spire that's more dramatic than that little "feather," which is so little that it looks like an afterthought. Otherwise, the top and spire just don't seem to flow that well from the rest of the tower, except, as I said, for that skyward swoop...

The colors of the windows and facade are a drab combination; they need a more dramatic contrast, or maybe some really showy metal trim...

Turned out much better than I had feared in the early days of construction... my one gripe is to me the crown and spire is not convincing, I look at the tower, and it just doesn't seem quite right to me. That being said though it is in all other respects a beauty!

I give it 10! It's tall and graceful and has a lot of cool features - 10 level skygarden with full grown trees sixty floors up, observation deck, very cool night lighting system (someone should post the pink night shots or lightning shot - wow) and big pools/gardens at it's base.

The height thing should hopefully be put to rest as the developer wants to build Q2, only taller!:)

When it has finished (estimated December) it will be 10/10. Best building on the Gold Coast, looking forward to the opening of the Observation Deck. Every morning I look at the tower to see how its going.

Constructions going really slow now because they got the crane down due to difficulty getting it down so the rest of the tower goes up without cranes.

As much as it pains me to say it, I'm inclined to agree here ;)

If whoever took it (Locke? memory fails) could go back and take the same shot again once the protective cladding sheets are off and the alimak things are gone, that'd be great, thanks

I think it's an incredible building, especially in the above photos. However, the one thing I don't like about it in real life are the really pale floors in between. Up close and on ground level (especially from the back) it's not that great looking. Apart from that though it's a really incredible looking structure (and can't wait for its little sister "vision" in brissie) ; )

7.5/10.

The Good: Officially "The tallest building in the Southern Hemisphere with spire" probably for years to come. Its nice to see Australia move beyond the rash of 50 storey buildings we are so fond of building. The facade scrubbed up better than the first panel of it we saw during construction and the views from this structure are incredible, the ocean view magic.

The Bad: The glass cladding finishes at 263m instead of 275m. This in my opinion, makes the spire look too elongated and try hard and the crown less elegant and chopped off (the lighting fixes this problem somewhat at night).

The Tall Story: The tallest apartment building in the world has no apartments/condos that go higher than 760 feet.

Still, totally dominanting on the Coast.

The building's facade isn't of real high quality, but its shape is peerless. from the ground, it appear to soar into the sky, thus making it look taller than it really is. it's a true icon of gold coast that no other residential tower in dubai can rival.

if the spire's as good as chrysler's, the facade's shinier than its current state, and the glass's extended all the way up to the tip of the fins, this icon would deserve a 10. but it's still the best residential skyscraper on this planet.

I really like this tower and its setting. My only gripe is that the crown doesn't look finished. From far away it looks as though the top just ends and there's some crap plopped on top. A great building deserves an equally if not greater top. This one builds you up and then lets you down at the very end. Still, a very attractive tower which deserves at least an 8/10

I waited four years for the completetion of this magnificent building, please sunland group don't wreck it now. I love this building, however i definatley have an issue with the crown and spire of the building. In some shots it is absolotley prefect and in others i question the cheapness and tackiness expressed by its physique. The crown looks half finsihed in some shots with its exponential curve finishing just short of the entire length of the 79th floor. However in some shots again this crown looks amazing.. particulary from the behind. Until they fix the crown and make it truly spectatcular which i hope they will do i cannot give the building a 10. Beautiful and stunning and a assest to the Gold Coast Skyline. Furthermore i would like the design team to possibly cap the 79th floor with a semicircle to get rid of the block shape or even finsih it with an elipse. Overall a beauty 9.5 can't wait to go up in January and have a close inspection to see wether or not Sunland have worked on that corwn!

LOL - leave him alone he's entitled to his opnion, though I have lived in Leeds (Cross Green) and Bradford and let me tell you - they are nothing and have no skyscrapers that can compare with anything in Austrlalia.

@Q12005 - welcome to the forum. I agree with you in some ways, from the back the crown doesn't look all that great IMO - but after seeing it today in 'the flesh' I have come to realize that it is an amazing skyscraper and is one of Australia's best. Its quite strange to have a massive skyscraper like that and just opposite have small houses! Gold Coast is bizzar in that way. Hopefully this development will spur heaps of new urban development around Q1. Currently the area is not very people friendly at ground level.

Possibly a little over-hyped because of its importance and location, but still a very elegant and beautiful tower. The spire is nothing to be ashamed and adds a certain "pinnacle of the city" quality to the building. Otherwise, it'd just be a tall building. I give it a 9/10. :okay:

I gave it an 8.5.

I think the building is OVER-spired. The stick takes away too much attention from the interesting top. A little shorter and it would have been better balanced.

Its lighting at night is superb.

Don't like the railing on top which looks like a fence and adds to the over-spired look - they really should have continued the glass up there.

But overall a beautiful building that could have been much better.

Cheers,

Adam

The variety of shapes making the facade is great and contributes a lot to the height feel. The cladding's quality is pretty good and the lighting is great. I also like how the top floors are protuding out of the crown. I'm a bit sad that the spire is cut off like that at the bottom... It makes the building look a bit unbalanced.
Well that's probably one of the best-looking residential skyscrapers in the world anyway...

Quite an impressive tower. Not only is it marvelously tall of course, but it also has a large mass. At a glance it would seem like a tower of this size might be out of scale within it's location. But it works, and the top spire and flourishes add a touch of elegance. I rate it a 9.

I like the honest photos better than this one. It has been photoshopped to
created reflectivity on all of the top scoop, which is impossible as it is not
all solid, and a gold or coloured filter has been used to give the impression
it is a different colour than it is. The overall effect is very misleading.

i like the setbacks that everyone else hates. the curvature is nice and i like the way the crown is light at night.

however, i dont like the spire. it is saved some by the way it looks from the beach but i still dont really like spires that arent in the center of the building. also the spire seems to big for this building. i also don't like the way the crown looks during the day and this contributes to the weird size of the spire.

^ the massive 110 tonne-93m spire was to be worlds longest at 170m. It was to start way down at lev50. but it was halved in length, maybe due to being pretty silly waste of $$.It originally was approved at 298m high which was heiht limit for Godl coast. But Sunland aplied for height extension and extended the spire another 25m to reach 322.5m.not sure why. it was already higher then Eureka by 70cm.

Having seen this tower in the flesh, I think it looks a bit stumpy...like it should have been another 50 metres higher or something...and I don't really like the cladding that much either. 7/10
