I voted for the Golden Gate Bridge. It's lines and the setting is just fantastic. Since I'm kinda weak for suspention bridges, my number two is Brooklyn Bridge. The french is just extremly tall and long, a fantastic piece of engineering, but not very nice looking.
The Helgeland cable stayed bridge is also nice... (The towers are around 140 metres high.)

IMHO, Sydney Harbour Bridge is the most beautiful, but lets evaluate this:
Golden Gate Bridge (San Fransisco, US): fantastic, I love this bridge, those shots with the fog going into the bay never get old, absolutely fantastic.
Erasmus Bridge (Rotterdam, NL): Never heard of it.
Tower Bridge (London, UK): Absolutely fantastic, suits London very well, Timeless
Viaduc de Millau Bridge (Millau, FR): It is a feat of engineering, however IMO, Cable-stayed bridges don't look good with more than three spans
Brooklyn Bridge (New York City, US): Looks good from far away, but from photos on the bridge, it just looks messy. A fantastic bridge non the less, from a practical point of view as well and it really does suit New York, but just not for me.

Of equal importance to the bridge architecture is the setting. The Golden Gate Bridge wins for having both dramatic architecture and a dramatic setting. Some other honorable mentions are as follows:
The Bixby Bridge on the Pacific Coast Highway in California's Big Sur:

The New River Gorge Bridge in West Virginia:

There is something odd about the proportions of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
I wouldn't say it is hideous, but I wouldn't say it is one of the most beautiful,
either.
Yeah it look oversized. It's just like two giant slab of stone pillars with wires in between. Dun like it. Never crossed my mind anyway.........

Don't they look alike?
Seri Wawasan bridge, Putrajaya (Malaysia's administrative centre) [and Erasmusbrug, Rotterdam]
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b365/jlshyang/KL/9putbr1.jpg
They are the same type (or at least it looks like it). But the design approaches are totally different. The Seri Wawasan Bridge is more frivolous while the Erasmusbrug is more about elegance and simplicity. I like Erasmusbrug better personally, though it wouldn't be my #1 in the world.

WOWOWOWOWOW look at the roof! that beautiful Calatrava roof........
anyway.....It's gotta be the Golden Gate, the colour, the setting, and the simple elegance of the design itself. It's stood the test of time so well.
other's to be mentioned, all of the HK bridges, I love HK, and The Verazzano in NYC, I like that for some reason. The ones in Denmark and Sweden are Stunning, and I had the opertunity to go on the Millau, which was breathtaking. But it just has to be the Golden Gate

Golden Gate wins by far
Its setting is spectacular , the fact that it was built when it was built it was in his time a big feat of engineering too, it has to cope with the sea earthquakes, wind etc. its the most photographed bridge in the world !
And the color just makes it stand out from the rest , there are bridges but only one golden gate . Some bridges have tried to copy that without success.
there are a few bridges missing but the golden gate wins anyway

Most modern bridges these days tend to be (and lets be honest here) pretty much identical - the differences being really only the height and span of the towers and the odd change here and there.
Interestingly for me, the most beautiful bridge in London isn't even Tower Bridge (infact the best bridges of London are all located south of Westminster - ie westwards), for that honour goes to Albert Bridge

I've always found the Jacques-Cartier bridge in Montreal, Canada (Originally called the Montreal Habour bridge when it was first built) to be quite beautiful. (Canada's second busiest bridge after the Champlain bridge, also located in Montreal.)
It's no Viaduc de Millau but it is to Canada what the Brooklyn Bridge is to the US.
The Jacques-Cartier bridge shares somthing with the Golden Gate bridge in San Fransico which is they are the two top suicide bridges in the world :( (But barriers have been put up as of 2005 on the Jacques-Cartier to try and ward of future attempts). Still for the time it was built it was quite the bridge! It was Montreal's second bridge to span the south shore after the Victoria bridge was built in the 1800's.
Each summer, thousands upon thousands of people stand on the bridge as it is closed to traffic on nights of the fireworks at the Six Flag's LaRonde Amusement park which is next to it on Sainte-Helene's island. LaRonde holds the Montreal International Pyromusical fireworks Competition each summer starting in late June and runs till late July every Saturday night in the beginning and then every Saturday and Wednesday night as well. I can tell u from experience it is truly a wonder to stand on this bridge and get the birds eye view of the fireworks and while enjoying the view of the city as well. BTW the fireworks are launched not very far from the bridge at all so the sound and sights are truly stunning as it is so rare that u can watch such a thing from such a high and close yet safe vantage point.

And the nearby Champlain Bridge (Busiest bridge in Canada, one of the busiest in the world, 3rd or 4th in North America), but maybe not quite as beautiful, this bridge is Montreal's longest and spans from Montreal to the south shore going over Nun's island and was built in the late 1950s early 1960's, orginally was to be called The Nun's Island bridge. Also another thing this bridge is known for is having the only opposite direction of traffic reserved bus lane on a bridge in North America! According to the Canadian bridge corporation, Approximately 49 million vehicles cross the Champlain Bridge every year, and 196 million people making it one of the busiest bridges in the world.

I can't rank these bridges, they are all unique in their own rights, as well as style.
Golden Gate bridge is iconic, and its status, like the Empire State Building, cannot be replaced.
The Brooklyn Bridge, likewise, is so famous it can't be ignored.
The Harbor bridge is also an iconic bridge in its own right, no one can see it without recognizing it.
The Millau Viaduct isn't as famous, probably because its new, but one of the photos show it as "a bridge in the clouds", literally, and that's breathtaking.
But then, the Golden Gate in San Francisco fog is also like that in that respect...
So hard to choose!

Need I say more? The Sydney Harbour Bridge is quintessentially Australian. It's a feat of engineering in its own right, and it adds character to Sydney's skyline in a way that no other landmark could. I know my viewpoint is a very biased one (being born and raised in Sydney), but having crossed the bridge hundreds of times, I can't help but be awed by its timeless beauty. And photographs, as beautiful as some may be, do not do it any justice at all!

I love the sydney harbour bridge because of the gap between the bridge and its 'anchor' towers. It shows that those old arch bridges (like hells gate in new york) didnt need those towers, but they do make it look much more stately. And yes i did the tourist thing and climbed the bridge, great skyline, but like an idiot forgot a camera.

I can't help myself from finding Pont Jacques-Cartier here to be my favourite bridge to look at.
Unfortunately Montréal’s bridges are not very well maintained and always look ready to collapse.

My favorite is definitely the Brooklyn Bridge
I also like the famous bridge in Florence (sorry don't remember the name), the famous bridge in Venice (sorry, don't remember that one either lol), and the Sydney Harbor Bridge.

Erasmus bridge is especially nice to see in the dark with the lights on. In daylight I think it isn't that special.
gorgeous!
Looks a bit like our st. Servaasbridge in Maastricht.

From this in the poll, I'd choose Millau Viaduct for many reasons: height, technology but to me the most important to me is appearance, and this one in Millau looks so light and is beautifully composed with the scenery of valley. Chapeau bas!
But in general I'd rather choose Charles Bridge in Prague, very magical place!

There are better bridges in the world then the Sydney harbour bridge. I like the Rion Antirio bridge in Greece. It looks beautiful.

IMO, the Sydney Harbor bridge is pretty average. It's in a fantastic location, but the bridge itself wouldn't be iconic if it was somewhere else.

Way too many bridges to choose from! Actually, my favourite that I've been over, since i Haven't been over that many bridges, would be the Alex Fraser in Vancouver which goes from Richmond to Delta... I think it's a beautiful bridge. Pretty average actually, but still beautiful

Erasmus Bridge and Golden Gate are the best because they were the first coming out with threir styles with a whole new concept of design.
There are many beautiful bridges but they are just copies...
So, Rotterdam and San Franscico!
Viaduc de Millau Bridge is awesome too.
