BICENTENARY BRIDGE OF CHILOE


The new viaduct will connect permanently the big island Chiloé with the continent, improving by this the life quality of the zones inhabitants and facilitate a mayor development of their economical, tourist and socio-cultural activities. The concession project named “Bicentenary Bridge of Chiloé” is about the construction, operation and maintenance of a viaduct over the Chacao Channel and its accesses. The total length of the new road, including the bridge, is of approximately 16.4 km.

The main work corresponds to a suspension bridge of double space (with a column in the centre) of 2.6 km length, compound of 2 lanes for each direction and a speed limit of 100 km/h.
The Bicentenary Bridge will be the biggest suspension bridge of South América and will be among the 10 biggest of the world, as it will have a principal distance between the columns of 1,100 m on its northern side (the world’s biggest bridge is the “Akashi Kaikyo” with a principal distance of 1,991 m).

To have a reference of the size of this mega-work, the height of the future bridge’s towers will be of 180 m.

It is important to show that the Bicentenary Bridge, with an investment of US$410 million Dollar and a social profit of more than 20%.

The offering pool, named “Puente Bicentenario”, is formed by the companies “Vinci Grand Projets” (French, first on world level) “Hochtief” (Germany, sixth on world level), “American Bridge” (North American), furthermore the Chilean companies “Besalco” and “Tecsa”, two of the most prestigious national construction companies.

“Hochtief” constructed the Storbel Bridge in Denmark, the world’s second biggest suspension bridge; and the “Vinci” company constructed the Poseidon Bridge in Greece, inaugurated in August 2004 for the Olympic Games.

The date for the beginning of the construction is approximately in the year 2007, and once concluded the previous engineering phases. The official beginning of the new bridge’s construction is planned for the year 2012.

This bridge is really one of the biggest engineering works to be constructed in our little country...

It will means a big proud to the people of the south of Chile, especially from "Chiloé", a place that looks taken from paradise. Now with this bridge it will be connected to the continent with the city of Puerto Montt...

la unica cosa es que la palabra "bicentenary" no existe en el idioma de la reina isabel. seria mas bien "the bicentennial bridge of chiloe". saludos, cluguerhombre, estes donde estes.
