It's not a mall, but on a busy day the three-block main arcade at Seattle's Pike Place Market can take forever to walk down. You don't so much walk as shuffle.

Today i'd read an article about a new mall in the Pearl River Delta, in a city which name i can't remember, somewhere between Shenzhen and Guangzhou. That mall has canals like Venice and Amsterdam and was visited on one day by 600.000(!) people. Bigger malls are u/c in China and that;s the only thing i can remember of that article...

Do you have proof about those figures, because i have my doubts:

The Mall of America (also MOA or MoA) is a shopping mall located in the Twin Cities suburb of Bloomington, Minnesota.

The mall became the largest shopping mall in terms of area in the United States when it opened in 1992. However, the mall is not and has never been the largest in the world, or the largest in the United States in terms of shopping area; four larger shopping malls have been built in China, in North America the West Edmonton Mall in Canada is larger, Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, Illinois and King of Prussia Mall in the Philadelphia suburbs have more retail space. The Mall of America is, however, the most visited shopping mall in the world with more than 40 million visitors annually (or roughly eight times the population of the state of Minnesota).

I think our friend sinjin refers to peak day capacity's like a weekend sale when the mall is open till midnight. At times like these 1 million is normal. Same with SM megamall which is actually larger.

I wonder why this Bangkok biggest shopping mall was not included.
It's 500.000 square meter large with approx. 25 millions visitors per year.

800.000 (or according to you a million) visitors across all seven malls, quite a different isn't it? ;)

Shopping Centers. Fundamentals were strong in 2004. Our 7 malls (excluding our newly opened Market!Market!) averaged 94% in occupancy, among the highest rates in the industry. Daily foot traffic increased 15% at Ayala Center to over 500,000 as we expanded the elevated pedestrian walkway. We attracted over 800,000 customers a day across all our malls.

You can edit Wikipedia if you want it... But i guess that it would be known if a mall attracts 8 or 9 times the numbers of visitors of the Mall of America. Very strange that only a few seems to know that.

@909 Ayala does have Seven Malls but if you read the paragraph carefully the 500,000 does not go into 7 malls but into just Ayala Center.

With regards to no one having heard of it, it's not really surprising as most people do not really know of developments in other places. Many people in the US do not know much about other places as I'm sure many people in Europe , Asia, Africa do not know much about the US or other places either. The interesting part about this is that Ayala Center is actually not the largest Mall in the Philippines in terms of Daily Foot traffic, it's Megamall, which is actually larger.

@909: The Philippines' malls are generally crowded. Even the very small malls get at least 20,000 daily shopper crowd. The Filipinos' shopping attitude is uniquely different.

Bit of a bump, but...

Why make these places so crowded? It's not like the presence of thousands of other people will make your shopping (or other leisure) experience any more enjoyable. I'd rather have several of these to spread out the crowds. Maybe it's because I like going to the movies where there's enough room for everyone to take two seats and shop without the queues.

It's why I hate days like Boxing Day, or the public holidays where shopping hours aren't restricted.

The Melbourne Central shopping centre has a railway station underneath and people were complaning (a lot) that they changed the layout so that no entrances to the station were able to bypass the shops any more. And people in shopping centres are really bad around escalators, especially when many of them are the kind that drive everywhere and have never been in an underground railway station.
