Yeah, and it looks almost like a copy of Öresund Bridge between CPH and Malmö (except it has more pylons).

Where will you get such large birdies sitting on pylons? :D
If those would be real sculptures - it would be both cool and fun! The fact that they appear in all three drawings is interesting IMHO

Blast you, I was about to mention it.

Yeah, definately not a "suspension bridge". But, I prefer cable-stayed ones, they are more elegants to me.

the bridge really reminds me of the Rio Antirio Bridge, built for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, and coincidentally we're also building a cable bridge leading up to our own Olympic Games.

RAV and Golden Ears should have opening ceremonies. Check out the Rio Antirio opening ceremony:

We're getting another cable stayed bridge as well, in the name of the twinned port mann... check it out...

http://www.th.gov.bc.ca/_gateway/photos/gallery/Rendering_Twinned_Port_Mann_Bridge.jpg

Read the report here (http://www.th.gov.bc.ca/_gateway/reports/PDR.pdf) about the whole gateway project, which encompasses Highway 1 from Glover Rd out in langely to the Mcgill interchange next to the Second Narrows bridge, a distance of almost 40 kms. By my estimate they will be building/replacing about 14 structures, including 11 interchanges from grandview to 216th.... a $3 billion project...

try going to www.gatewayprogram.bc.ca and selecting "what's new" From there there's the program report and a bunch of renderings of the whole project... I'm suprised the thing isn't working, I can see it fine on my machine....

Yeah.

For some reason cable-stayed bridges look really unattractive to me.

That bridge is really huge. It would look colossal when completed.

awesome news for vancouver. i just wished that the two towers on each side of the bridge would merge into one as they go upward, it would be more traditional looking and even taller. but this is cool too.

Hi Mr X,

This is the Golden Ears Bridge, actually located 45 km or so east of downtown Vancouver in the eastern suburbs. It's supposed to cost $800 million, not quite $1 billion, and be financed entirely by tolls. It's also a "P3" and the Liberal propaganda experts claim that this means the taxpayer will be fully protected from any cost overruns. Yeah, right. As if the contractors (Bilfinger Berger leads the consortium) are just going to keep on building and building, no matter what.

Here are links to the Translink pages describing the project:

in suspension bridge there are main cables to suport another cable. Meanwhile cable stayed bridge actually is connected directly between pylon and deck.

Are those birds perched on top of the towers? If so, they must be about two meters tall, with a wingspan of seven or eight meters! Pterodactyls?

its running between Maple Ridge And Langley/Surrey

Will make a huge difference for that area - won't affect vancouver that much

is it really going to be a toll bridge? as i have heard

it will probably be helpful for the new regional mall that they want to build somewhere in Langley - the people behind Vaughn Mills mall in toronto are planning a large mall for langley near hwy #1 and 200th i think - should be complete around the same time - 2010 for the mall
