Lets see some of your interchanges for the air.
I will start with Toronto

You forgot the 427/Gardiner/QEW-Evans/Queensway/Brown's Line/Sherway Gardens Rd. interchange complex. The 409/427 interchange is probably more complicated from the ground with all the approaches than from the air.

Here are a few from the Omaha area.
http://img458.imageshack.us/img458/4644/i29i480us65xc.gif
Interstate 480 terminating at Interstate 29, with US-6/West Broadway continuing east through the interchange.
http://img458.imageshack.us/img458/2408/i80i480us751qx.gif
Interstate 80 at its junction with Interstate 480/US-75 north and US-75 south.
http://img400.imageshack.us/img400/4381/i80i680us2756kb.gif
Interstate 80 (orientated north-south in this photo) turns east after interchanges with Q Street, L Street/US-275/NE-92, I Street, and Interstate 680. All of these actually occur from only one or two exits from the mainline, depending on which direction you are heading.
http://img372.imageshack.us/img372/2670/i480us752nu.gif
Interstate 480 turns east after a short jog north; US-75 continues the northerly route as the North Freeway (former Interstate 580). You can also see ramps from the abandoned east-west freeway through Omaha.
http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/281/us75sorensonpkystorzexpy0hx.gif
US-75, after traveling a few miles north, ends as a freeway at a partial interchange/intersection with Sorensen Parkway and Storz Expressway.

Here are a few interchanges in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.
First we have the I-105/I-110 Interchange
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b221/billybtall/FWY110105.jpg
This stack interchange has a fifth level in a direct HOV-to-HOV connecting ramp, reaching 122 feet above ground level. This is the first intermodal interchange in California with vertical transferability accommodating cars, vanpools/carpool/buses/light rail with transfer facilities on 3 levels.
Next is the East L.A. Interchange Complex
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b221/billybtall/FWYEastLAb.jpg(north section)
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b221/billybtall/FWYEastLA.jpg(south section)
This interchange is comprised of 6 freeway segments from 4 highways, the I-10, I-5, U.S. Route 101, and CA-60. The I-710 is also located less than 1 mile to the east, Downtown Los Angeles is less than 1 mile to the west.
Here's the Four Level Interchange
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b221/billybtall/FWY101110.jpg
Built in 1954 and located on the opposite side of Downtown LA from the East LA Interchange, the Four Level was the first four level stacked interchange in the world. It's where the US-101 and CA-110, or the Hollywood Fwy and the Pasadena Fwy meet.
Down in The OC there is the Orange Crush
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b221/billybtall/FWYOrangeCrush2.jpg
Said to be one of the most complex highway interchanges in the world, the Orange Crush (as it's known to locals) is where the I-5 meets the CA-22 and CA-57 just south of Disneyland and Anaheim's Angel Stadium. There are 66 lanes of travel over 13 bridges. (The interchange is currently in the final stages of a 15 year construction blitz to completely re-align, widen, and modernize it to accomodate well over 600,000 vehicles a day.)
Finally there's the El Toro "Y"
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b221/billybtall/FWY5405.jpg
The El Toro "Y", called so because of it's location adjacent to the now closed El Toro Marine Corps Air Station in Irvine, CA and the "Y" shape of the major portion of the interchange, was the widest roadway in the world (26 lanes across) when it's expansion was completed in 1997. It's the point where the two main north/south arteries, the San Diego/I-405 Freeway and the Santa Ana/I-5 Freeway, merge to become the San Diego/I-5 freeway in south Orange County.
So there you have it. A sampling of the many, MANY interchanges we LA types get to navigate every day.

Those interchanges in L.A. are, indeed, a world of their own.
So that means that the greatest freeway network urban areas in terms of scale are (in no particular order):
>Greater Los Angeles
>Greater Toronto
>Atlanta
>Houston
>Dallas
>Beijing
are there more... :)

Hi (first post),
Here are some British interchanges. Nothing to compete with Toronto or LA, I know...
http://images.fotopic.net/?iid=yg7e7a&noresize=1&nostamp=1&quality=70
^ Aerial shot of new M25 junction for Heathrow terminal 5. From airliners.net
http://images.fotopic.net/?iid=yg7e7f&noresize=1&nostamp=1&quality=70
^ Spaghetti Junction in Birmingham. One of Britain's first four-level interchanges.
http://images.fotopic.net/?iid=yg7e75&noresize=1&nostamp=1&quality=70
^ Avonmouth near Bristol, where the M49 joins the M5 just north of the Avonmouth Bridge (shown at the bottom).
http://images.fotopic.net/?iid=yg7e7s&noresize=1&nostamp=1&quality=70
^ Glasgow is the city with the most complete urban motorway network - but still half of it is unfinished!
http://images.fotopic.net/?iid=yg7e77&noresize=1&nostamp=1&quality=70
^ Another interchange in Glasgow: M8/M73.
http://images.fotopic.net/?iid=yg7e78&noresize=1&nostamp=1&quality=70
^ The M11/M25 junction north of London. It would be possible to drive round in a circle here, but the slip roads are segregated.
http://images.fotopic.net/?iid=yg7e7c&noresize=1&nostamp=1&quality=70
^ The Lofthouse Interchange near Leeds, where the M1 and M62 meet. Unfortunately a lot of junctions are built to standards like this - 10 years ago it finally got so bad that a pair of direct slip roads were built (W-N).

Glasgow has the most impressive motorway network in the UK, with a section the M8 containing 17 lanes of running traffic, and a large part of it cutting through the city centre. Obviously not on the same level as U.S cities (and Toronto..), but it is impressive seeing that we have the largest Urban Rail network in the UK outside of London, and thus don't need to rely on cars quite as much.
Anyway, enjoy:
Cathedral Junction, one of the most manic set pieces in the city:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y124/the_boy_david/Crazy.jpg
M8 cutting through Charing Cross and the city centre:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y124/the_boy_david/hilt.jpg
17 lanes of traffic as 2 motorways join; the M8 and M77. This will soon be expanded as the M74 is also joined around this area:

^ The M11/M25 junction north of London. It would be possible to drive round in a circle here, but the slip roads are segregated.
We've actually got something like that here: NY 5 (N-S), NY 179 (E), and a local road (W) -
http://www.empirestateroads.com/week/ny5-ny179-full.jpg
In this case, the "oops" ramps are located outside of the circle, and they've essentially been closed off (to the right/east). You can still make out the points where the west/left side ramps used to be. Until recently, it also had loops inside the circle to aid in "left" turns:

You don't see many interchanges like that in the US.

They need to get rid of those stoplights at 494.

Yeah, definatly. I think there's sufficent room there for a fully-fledged cloverleaf instead of that partial cloverleaf they currently have. They did make it better though making Pioneer Trail/169 a diamond.

So where in the states is the "Land of flyovers". I remember seeing that somewhere. North Carolina suckes when it comes to building stack interchanges. I think the only 4 level stack we have in the state is in Charlotte. I think my favorite is the Dallas high 5. But where is the Houston pics I know they represent well with huge stacks.

I love symetrical stacks. For one they save a lot of space compared to other high speed interchanges and there is a artistic look about them. If I had my way I would build all major interchanges that way. Texas rocks when it comes to interstate stacks.

Well, there's only two real cool interchanges in Utah that I can think of (and a lot of weird ones). Both of them are in the Salt Lake City area.
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e141/bobrulz600/SpaghettiBowl.jpg
This is the the interchange of the SR-201 freeway, I-80, and I-15 on the border of Salt Lake City and South Salt Lake, Utah. Interstate 80 comes in from the east and merges with I-15 northbound while State Route 201 comes in from the west and ends. There are ramps to/from every direction on all three of these roads here. There are also exits to several surface streets (including long exit ramps paralleling I-15 northbound exiting onto 3 streets leading into Downtown). This interchange is locally called the "Spaghetti Bowl" and I think is the busiest interchange in the state (either this one or the one below). It's a compact and fairly complex 4-level stack interchange...although it's not quite on the scale of some of the other ones posted here.
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e141/bobrulz600/I-15andI-215interchange.jpg
This one is further south, the interchange between I-15 (north-south) and I-215 (east-west) near the border of Murray and Midvale, Utah. The closest thing to a full cloverleaf interchange we have in Utah.

Those interchanges in L.A. are, indeed, a world of their own.
So that means that the greatest freeway network urban areas in terms of scale are (in no particular order):
>Greater Los Angeles
>Greater Toronto
>Atlanta
>Houston
>Dallas
>Beijing
are there more... :)
The greater LA area does have what is considered to be the greatest freeway network in terms of scale. But, I would have to disagree with Greater Toronto. The MacDonald-Cartier Fwy [401] does not constitute a whole frwy system...Toronto needs many more miles of fwy in order to be brought to the stage of even considering it being in the same category. As for the Texan cities...they are much closer. In Europe, Madrid has really done an excellent job...following it's colonial planning and ring roads/beltways every few miles..radiating out from the center....you at a map and you'll see what I mean. And if I am not mistaken they are adding more fwys to their system. In Canada, Montreal's Autoroutes are much larger scale wise...whereas Vancouver's are ridiculous. Toronto's are eye-openers..because they are big...and do not forget they include the distributor and service roadways.

The highway is coming from the "Google" sign, along the river, and dives in a tunnel after having crossed the river on the left...but the interchange is inside this ugly building. Dallas - Forth Worth :
As concrete structures, they're impressive, although I wonder about some of those single-lane bridges ... personally, I'm glad my city hasn't gone too far down that road. Lewis Mumford (does anyone remember him?) asserted that one third of central LA was roadway & parking lot (known in this country as a "car-park": you know the old Joni Mitchell song ... "You paved paradise and you put up a car-park?".
As for Mumford's claim, can't confirm that, but I prefer a real park to a car-park.

This is the Glenloch Interchange in Canberra, Australia.
It connect William Hovell Drive, Tuggeranong Parkway, Parkes Way and by 2008 Gungahlin Drive will also be connected to it. Due to the addition of the new road, the entire interchange is getting a re-configuration.
This is what it looked like back in 2004-05

This is from Telstra Tower on 03/07/06.

This is a drwaing of what the completed interchange will look like by mid 2008.

Hi all,
These are some of the largest interchanges in Israel, courtesy of Google Earth. All are in the general vicinity of Tel Aviv.
Not quite as impressive as some of those in previous postings, but not bad, nonetheless:

This interchange is in my town, on bypass ;) The main road is national road DK3/E65 and voivodship road DW367 , the viaduct over the road DW367 is under construction because , it was too low, and one lorry just crashed in this bridge ! So the constructed new, higher ;) So this aerial is from 2006.

This exit shows the exact Dutch stupidity in road construction. Instead of making this exit more high-speed and freeflow, they decided to make a 90 degrees turn "because there aren't 2 national roads connecting". What kind of stupid reason is that :bash: You can see it elsewhere too, like the brand-new A35-N36 interchange near Almelo.
