Rhino, please use some adjectives to describe life in Kamloops. I've passed through it a million times en route to Vancouver and find it quite interesting looking. I'm really interested in knowing how a homer would describe it.

HOT . not much rain . Warmer winters , rare to go down to -10 .
Lots to do out doors , IE camping , boating , hiking , Fossil digging , concerts in Riverside park . Great hockey in winter , and thats not forget SUN PEAKS RESORT.
All in all I love living here , and would not want to go any where else. Most who come here feel the same . Its hard to leave.

IYO, is it better than the Okanagan? Would you rate it higher than eastern BC, like Invermere? Why or why not? I ask because I am contemplating a move there from overseas. It would be a completely new start for us. We're thinking Inveremere, Kamloops, Kelowna, maybe Calgary.
Rhino
May 25th, 2006, 02:06 PM
It is warmer then all of thoses yes , ( Kamloops just won warmest city in Canada last year ) , the economy is very good. Yuo will not have the options you have in Calgary but it is on par with the Okanagan ( just with less trafric . ) Invermere ? thats a pretty small place to try and make a start with . The eastern B.C. area has coller springs, summers, falls, and winters then our part of the prov. Ether here or Kelowna you would do very well in both .

Thanks for the information. A lot of rivalry between Kelowna and Kamloops I would imagine, eh?
Rhino
May 26th, 2006, 03:24 PM
Kamloops , no offence to Kelowna as I do like it there , has city feel IE down town .
Kelowna feels like one big suburb that someone forgot to build a city in .

^^We're working on it... :sleepy: haha. But really, kelowna has many projects underway downtown and i think in about 7 years, it will have quite the happening downtown. Right now there's two huge cranes up and like 5 smaller ones but since there is a new 20 storey hotel going in as well next to prospera place, there will be another huge crane. Just wait, Kelowna is and will continue to build up for quite some time.... Until the building boom ends... OR WILL IT?!?!
Rhino

I hope it doesnt , and yes Kelowna has some biggies . Its to bad they werent in just ONE place though . They tend to be spread out all over the place .

I was in kelowna on tuesday with my buddy looking at vehicles with him because hes looking at buying a new one. Kelowna deffinatly has some big buildings going on, much bigger than what kamloops has. I do like the fact that we actually have a nice little core to our city but little is deffinatly the word for it.
It would be nice to see kamloops build up like the way kelowna does, but with the way things are looking for this year or the next 5 i doubt we'll have any new landmarks (except for that student residence) to show off.

Wow. This thread is like a well kept secret! Too bad a lot of the shots were unviewable though. Congrats to all of you posting those pics cuz, wow, I'm a little bit breathless at the moment. I wish there were better descriptions of what's what. Like, I went camping with family in Osoyoos several times as a kid; that campground site looked awfully familiar, but I don't know what it was called. Our site was always "The Oasis." Anyway, those are beautiful pictures; some even stunningly so. B.C. almost corners the market on Canadian landscape beauty (although the Alberta Rockies can hold their own).

isn't that a shot from what looks like the 21st floor of that discovery pointe resort hi-rise?
Nope, as you can see in the photo it was taken well before Discovery bay was built. You can see the 17 story Dolphins tower, and the land on the very bottom left, (theres a mound of dirt) is where the 21 story tower and the faulty discovery bay condos are now. SO this photo is somewhere around 3-4 years old.
and ps. I wish I could take credit for the photo but it isnt mine, I googled it awhile ago and give kudos to whoever did snap the pic.

Holy shit, British Columbians are so spoiled. The Kamloops/Logan Lake area and the Okanagan are my favourite places on Earth. However, each region in BC rivals the other one. West Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast, and the Kootenays are also quite spectacular areas.

they will ( or that is what the tour guide { super hot red head ] told us in 2008-2010 ) . The dam can support enough power to run 1 million homes ! with the expantion , 1.25 million !

well , Ive made the trip from the GRV to Kamloops in 3 hours, but thats at 120km hr.
Which is really easy on the Coquihalla.
When I've been through Kamloops it always looks smaller than it is. I've never really seen it except at the bus depot which really smells bad. My friend went to TRU and she thought Kamloops was nice.
I will be there sometime in January on the bus.
I love the interior

Oh oh...lol....I'll try to find some from that other thread....
Here we are. Windmill palms or Trachycarpus fortunei grow up to 35+ ft. So the ones you see below will eventually reach that. But a similar species is becoming ever so popular and in a few years will be quite common to plant instead of the fortunei. It's called Trachycarpus takil and has larger fronds, grows faster, hardier, and is taller. It's the closest Vancouver can get to the classic tall LA type palms called Washingtonia. I reckon you'll see these all over Van in 20 years. Here is a pic of one in Rome-
