Hello all. Well I asked this question in another thread, but I'll make it here. Would anyone be interested in a Late December Meet? A tour of downtown will certainly be awesome. I can't wait to see all the new developments in person.

BTW:

I don't even know how you guys look like. How about posting some pics of yourselves... or just give us your MySpace.

But yeah, I need a face. Or else my auntie won't let me go. :tongue3:

Here I am, btw...

That's me after spending the night over at my friend's house in Monterey Park.

I remember this time I was at my friend's house and she ended up straightening my hair ... I did look like the Latin Fabio. :tongue3: But many other people said I remainded them of the Pollo Loco guy. Hmmm... :sly: And I have this old pic of me and eeeveryone says I look like Orlando Bloom.

Michael Hutchence??? Hmmm... that's a first right there. But yeah, I guess I kind of do look like him.

So far, people have told me that I look like:
- Orlando Bloom
- El Pollo Loco guy.
- Fabio.
- This guy from this rock band (don't remember his name).
- Howard Stewart.
- and now, Michael Hutchence.

Do you all have a tour in mind that you want to take or a date? I would be interested in meeting other skyscraper / architectural enthusiasts if you picked a date that worked.

THese are the tours put on by the LA Conservancy. For more information, go to
http://www.laconservancy.org/tours/tours_main.php4

I would be interested in going on the Art Deco or the Historic Core Tour. I've already been on 3 tours and they are pretty decent. I live in the historic core, so its kind of funny to go on a tour in my own neighborhood, but oh well.

TOURS

1) Angelino Heights

Tour Dates: First Saturday of the month

Step back in time to the turn of the century as you stroll down Carroll Avenue in Angelino Heights. One of Los Angeles' first suburbs, the area is rich with history and Victorian architecture. This tour features the interiors of two private homes. Reservations

2) Art Deco

Tour Dates: Every Saturday of the month

The Art Deco style of the late 1920s is noted for lush geometric ornament, opulent materials, and lavish interiors. This thematic tour examines the rich Art Deco heritage in downtown's Historic Core. Reservations

3) Biltmore Hotel

Tour Dates: Second Sunday of the month at 2 pm

Explore the magnificent architecture and rich history of the 1923 Millennium Biltmore Hotel, known in its early days as "The Host of the Coast." This 1-3/4 hour tour visits the hotel's public spaces and ballrooms (subject to availability). After the tour, treat yourself to High Tea in the hotel's Rendezvous Court. Reservations

4) Broadway Theaters

Tour Dates: Every Saturday of the month

Broadway's National Register Historic Theater District encompasses the largest concentration of pre-World War II movie houses in America. This tour explores the unique architecture and history of this street. (Interior access may vary by tour.) Reservations

5) City Hall

Tour Dates: First Saturday of the month at 11am.

This 1-3/4 hour tour explores the wonderful architecture and fascinating history of this beloved, and now fully restored landmark. Included on the tour are some of the building's important public spaces including the magnificient rotunda, City Council chambers and Public Works session room. Reservations

6) Downtown's Evolving Skyline

Tour Dates: Third Saturday of the month

This tour of architecture, art, and open spaces of the Central Business District focus on the postwar urban built environment, and how a city's future is shaped by the choices it makes about its past. Reservations

7) Highland Park

Tour Dates: 2/25/06, 4/29/06, 6/24/06, 8/26/06, 10/28/06, and 12/16/06

The Sycamore Grove area of Highland Park is one of Los Angeles' oldest neighborhoods, with a rich and varied history. This docent-led tour features visits to the Southwest Museum's Casa de Adobe, a 1917 replica of an 1800s hacienda, and La Casita Verde, a Victorian home formerly known as the Ziegler Estate. Tour goers will also stroll through Sycamore Park and past the fabulous Craftsman homes of Sycamore Terrace.
Reservations

8) The Historic Core

Tour Dates: Every Saturday of the month

Spanning four decades of Los Angeles history, this tour covers many of the great landmarks in downtown's Historic Core, encompassing architectural styles from the Victorian to the Beaux Arts to the Art Deco.
Reservations

But yeah, I'm like sooo down to go there. It gets boring after a while, though. But if we all go, it's going to be more fun!

More forumers showing up to the meeting = more people ice skating. More people ice skating = more people falling down. More people falling down = More laughs are going to come out of my (or our) mouth(s). More laughs coming out of our mouths = More fun we're going to have.

I'd be interested in the evolving skyline tour. Or, we can make our own walking tour. A tour that covers most of the unique neighborhoods of downtown...that way we can get many good pics. don't know how long this will take but maybe we can start around the fashion district, proceed north, check out the artist district / little tokyo go the the future grand ave. site, travel through downtown and end up somewhere in south park?

Why do you think I dismissed myself from this meet?

People..do the following:

1. Find out who all is going and make a list.

2. Decide where you are going to meet.

3. What will you do? And how much time are you going to spend doing it?

4. Or you can just sit and do nothing and finally meet in April.

I would have more fun walking around downtown by myself. Least I can enjoy Lost Souls.

There are LA meets several times a year that are set up over at SSP. Why haven't most of you come to those? In fact there was one a few weeks ago, and I think they had 9 people show up. With the crowd here they could at least been 15 to 20, so why can't both forums members get together.

I'm not so sure about the group here, I get the feeling there is more of a clique of youngsters who don't value the opinion of some of us long time forumers, and the fact the I'm older than most of you. One thing is I'm a native of this city and have explore and seen a lot in my 42 years. I'm excited to see all of things happening downtown LA and other parts of the city. Anyway in order for the meet to happen someone needs to take charge and set a time and decide the best place to meet. For those who can't make it by a certain time, its best to PM to at least one contact their phone number (perferably cell) so you can make contact where the group is at that very moment. Usually the group over at SSP usually meet at a coffeehouse and chill for a moment while we wait for the others to arrive. Yes some will be late, and thats expected (we live in LA). Anyway I hope its successful. Remember just from past meets, the agency won't be exactly as planned but many things are covered according to the plan. We just get off track as new things arrises and some members want to check it out.

Overall I've had fun at the meets, and it strange when you meet for the first time. It seems as if you already know each other just because you chat with each other for so long on these boards.

So yeah, I'd only be able to be with you guys one or two hours. I mean, I can pretty much spend the whole day at downtown on Tuesday, but since it's a Tuesday, I assume most of you guys wouldn't be able to be there before 4-5 pm because some of you still have to take care of your finals and/or work.

This saturday, the 16th is that Evolving Skyline tour.
What are we planning to do at a meet-up? Self-guided tour? Sponsored tour? Stare at each other for a good hour? Will there be booze?

If we want to have a SSC-guided something or other, then 12/23 or 30 (SAT) seems ideal if it's December you want. If this is too close to xmas/new years we should probably move it to January.

Broadway Bar is pretty cool, went there for my birthday. For folks like us, the Standard is probably ideal, as you're surrounded by skyscrapers in their rooftop bar, but on weekends they charge a real high cover...

If anyone would be interested in a beach area meet, I would be more than happy to host some of you guys out here. It would be best if everyone could bring a bicycle (beach cruiser preferred) and we could ride from the Marina, up through Venice, and also check out Santa Monica. I would be happy to show some of the ups and downs of the developments down here, including Playa Vista. I recommend bikes, because the big blue bus doesn't have day passes. And with as many stops and reboardings that we would need, 75 cents each boarding would add up pretty quick.

Just a thought, let me know what you think. If given a couple of weeks, I could put together a nice route to follow to go by all the highlights plus some of the other hidden treasures out here.

Stop by the luxurious LMU campus on your way in the pristine Westchester, mind you.
But that does sound like a cool idea. I like renting bikes at Hermosa and riding to Playa.

Hhhhmmm.. You know, this is something I saw in the Mexican Forum @ SSP.

Usually, first they vote on a date to have the meeting. Whatever date gets the most votes, that's the day they meet because that's the day most people are going to be able to go to the meeting.

Maybe we should vote on a date... since so far, only two of us (me being one of those two) are going to be able to go, but apparently more of you want to go.

So, maybe I should open another thread -with a poll- to see what day most of us would be able to go to the meeting. Yup yup...

I propose five dates:

- Sat 01/27/07
- Sat 02/03/07
- Sat 02/10/07
- Sat 02/17/07
- Sat 02/24/07 (Even though there's a chance I might not be able to go on the 24th).

Yeah... I'm trying to have the meeting before March.

BTW: So, you wouldn't be able to go to the meeting, right? (01/27/07)

I'll be there! i'll just get back on the plane and go back to LA! i sure do miss it.... :D well...i'm back in H-town so, yeah...or like u say, yup yup

LOL. For a moment I actually thought you were being serious, haha.

And lol... You're the the 5th person to notice I always write "yup yup", hahah. And it's funny, because I say "yup yup" when I'm talking too, hahah...
