This is the Apprentice after all, so I hope they interact with the city more than what I saw on the trailers. Why couldn't they be in one of the hi-rises along Wilshire or downtown with a great view? Oh well, we'll see how the show fares without diva Carolyn at the helm.

That's true. Unlike TOP CHEF, the contestants at least live in a DTLA loft.....but I couldn't figure out which one.

Would have been better if they were in the city but that was probably too expensive.

'The Apprentice' has its work cut out for it in L.A.
Can Trump's show regain its blockbuster status with a shift to the West Coast?
By Martin Miller, Times Staff Writer
January 7, 2007
http://www.calendarlive.com/media/photo/2007-01/27227692.jpg
RELOCATING from his show's New York base for the first time, Donald Trump free associates in tonight's opening episode about the new home for the sixth season of "The Apprentice," Los Angeles.
L.A. is sex, movies and cars, Trump tells his 18 would-be protégés — another stellar collection of Harvard grads, real estate developers and Internet entrepreneurs, who are largely beautiful, sycophantic and backbiting. None of the aspiring Donalds argue with their new boss' take on the city picked to renew interest in the slumping franchise.
Notably, the quintessential New Yorker left television off his top three City of Angels list — though, clearly, a forceful case could have been made that sex and cars are better represented in other American cities. And given his penchant for bluntness, it's somewhat surprising that smog, traffic and earthquakes didn't crack his list either.
Maybe if his show regains its blockbuster status, the feat would remind The Donald to at least mention the medium that has probably made him as famous as his real estate or his hair. But even with the West Coast bling and glare, the show faces an uphill struggle to regain its former ratings glory.
In its first-season finale, "The Apprentice" drew an audience of about 28 million. In steady decline since then, the show attracted just over 11 million viewers with its Season 5 finale in June.
But any time Trump is in the game, it's hard to count out the captain of industry and self-promotion. Just in time for this season's inaugural show, Trump came out from under his hair to free associate — in this instance with Rosie O'Donnell. Some descriptors for the co-host of "The View" that struck Trump were "fat," "loser" and "disgusting."
In a media blitz of the entertainment news outlets, Trump blasted O'Donnell for claiming he'd gone bankrupt, was worth millions, not billions, and had somehow been bailed out of trouble by his father's considerable fortune. Trump's wealth, which he won't divulge, is a touchy subject.
"I'm going to sue Rosie, and it's going to be fun," Trump told a news crew, adding: "Rosie is very lucky to have her girlfriend and she better be careful or I'll send one of my friends over to pick up her girlfriend."
That's the way The Donald rolls.
The public Trump-O'Donnell spat is meant to crank up the buzz around the show, which after changing nights for the third time, could use it. Tonight's 90-minute episode begins at 9:30, but thereafter the show will return to its usual time slot at 9 p.m.
The show's new time on Sundays pits it against the formidable "Desperate Housewives," which like "The Apprentice" scores some of its best ratings in the coveted 18-49 demographic.
As ever, Trump, in a phone interview, remained confident. "I'm not worried about the 'Housewives,' " he said. "Our audience is young, smart kids of great ambition. We'll be fine."
Trump admitted his show was hurt by "The Apprentice: Martha Stewart," which aired in fall 2005. The Stewart spinoff performed poorly in the ratings and was not renewed, though network officials maintained it was intended only as a one-season installment anyway.
"I was never in favor of Martha, but being the wonderful team player I am, I said, 'OK,' " said Trump. "People were so angry that such a piece of garbage would get the name of 'The Apprentice.' That show was a real disaster."
If Trump's feud with O'Donnell brings viewers into the tent, his show's new twists are meant to keep them there. As if the carrot of a job with Trump weren't enough, the show has a new stick with which to beat its contestants — sleeping in tents.
A team loss in one of Trump's appointed sales tasks means being banished to the backyard, where the losers must use outdoor showers, portable toilets and tents. Meanwhile, the winning team enjoys the luxury of a mansion off Mulholland Drive.
"It's so brutal," said Trump. "They are lying out there in the grass, then it rains. It gets real sloppy. Let me tell you after five weeks, it's disgusting and you really want to get into the mansion."
Far from the backyard muck will be Trump's children, Donald Jr. and Ivanka, who will again be employed by their father. Both Trump progeny attended the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and will make appearances in the dreaded board room where they'll advise their dad when to say, "You're fired."
But don't get too attached to L.A., said Trump. The show will relocate again, probably to Miami, Las Vegas or Chicago — cities that are rumored to hold their own with L.A., at least in the sex and cars department.

While in New York he never metioned the cold, filth or rats either.

I really don't want to see Chicago in the next season. I'd imagine that it would be somewhat like having it filmed in NYC and I'd rather have the real thing than some look-a-like. Anyways, Las Vegas would be an interesting choice. I wish Trump would consider San Francisco as another choice city.

^ Congrats, Westside, you've once again demonstrated why nobody should buy a bit of your garbage when you come and post in the Chicago pages, trying to be all friendly and 'unbiased'. This discussion is about this season of The Apprentice being held here in Los Angeles. I'm loving the current season! I'm assuming you watch the show? Hopefully the new location isn't getting to you despite your hate for Los Angeles. And don't criticize me for entering the Chicago forum. You have a long history of making some pretty nasty comments about LA in our very own forum! Besides, I respect Chicago for what it is and I truly think it is a great city. Though I do admit that I don't like it as much on SSP and SSC.

^I really do happen to think it to be a great city. I've been to Chicago twice, most recently back in May and I was impressed. I have always respected Chicago and have never put the city itself down. Some people think Chicago to be a second New York. I disagree with those people as both cities have their unique vibes.
Anyways, the point I was trying to make is that the whole purpose of the show moving out to Los Angeles is to give the show a fresh new start with in order to boost ratings and possibly retrieve lost viewers.

The Baz
January 17th, 2007, 04:59 AM
I don't think so klamedia. Carey showed some really bad judgement with those bathing suit designs. If he were smarter he would have polled the other men in the group to see if they would be interested in buying those designs.
They were way too tight and meterosexual for mainstream buyers. It really stunned me how he never seemed to get it, not even in the boardroom, that most people would not be caught dead in those trunks. Where does he live? Trapped in some gym bunny's basement with only OUT magazines as a source of media to the outside world.
He's a good speaker and I'm sure he's talented but those designs were awful and tanked ($600 vs $18,000 for the womens suits, wow). Donald did the right thing by firing him.

No, the show is NOT canceled...
If the show was canceled, do you think Ivanka Trump would be promoting the show on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show last week? If you watched that show, you would've seen Andy Dick misbehaving (probably under the influence of alcohol?) and finally getting dragged off the show by security guards for drooling like a hungry wolf, upon seeing a rack of lambchops and molesting Ivanka's legs..Okay, okay..maybe he didn't really drool like a wolf, but he certainly did behave like a horn-dog and molested her legs. That was just too funny!
Also, NBC didn't want to run the show head-to-head with the Super Bowl. You simply can't compete with the Super Bowl for viewers, especially with all the hype and hoopla surrounding the game. When you think about it, that's actually a smart move by NBC...considering most viewers on the East Coast presumably would be watching the game in lieu of the Apprentice in that same time slot.

Ratings stretch.
Captain Hook
February 8th, 2007, 10:13 AM
Haven't watched a single episode this season but based on the ratings that have gone downhill each season I don't think it would be a dumb move to call it quits.
The game is in the refrigerator, the lights out, the eggs cooling, the butter is getting hard and the jello is jiggling. - Chick Hearn
The show went L.A and that didn't help, like Trump said in his own book
"I hate the phrase “location, location, location” because I’ve seen a lot of idiots ruin good locations and a lot of geniuses make incredible investments out of horrible locations. You could hand over the location for Trump Tower (by far, the best location in New York City), and a moron could run the site into the ground. I guarantee it."
So location made no major difference here, it was how it was run and Trump and his crew made a mistake. No biggie, nobody's perfect. Each story needs an ending and this show can still have a happy ending.
Westsidelife
February 8th, 2007, 10:19 AM
Trump moved the show to Los Angeles because of West Coast business interests more so than to boost ratings though giving the show a fresh new start was one of the primary reasons why the show moved to LA.
Captain Hook
February 8th, 2007, 10:45 AM
That I didn't know. The show has definately been great promo for his business.
Still though I think he should call it quits and consentrate on real estate. Filming the show has distracted the business a little. Unless he ofcourse lied in his books.. ofcourse it's free advertisement but having a crew tailing you from business meetings to toilet 6-16 hours a day..

Stefani has flown under the radar, but so did Bill from Season One. Stefani has repeatedly contributed a fair amount in each tastk and no one has ever complained about her in the boardroom. And we can't blame her for not having led a task because of the new winning PM stays PM concept.

I would have liked to see James win, he had much more passion! Besides it would be the first Asian American Apprentice! Stefani was too under the radar, just wasn't fair. Overall I would have liked to really have seen Syriah and the notoriously flaming swimsuit James staying on a lot longer.
No projects for LA........I've wasted a whole season in nervous anticipation.
this was really stupid...why the hell did they show that skyscraper in the sand during the previews? Fcuk trump!!! I'm happy with all the other developments going on in L.A.

I think trump peddles trash... I mean the dude went bankrupt with his daddy's money.
If you want some eighties-box tower with audacious gold signage, all you have to do is go to west LA and take a look at the brilliance of donald sterling.
Trump is a creation of the media and thats it. If any of you inherit a FORTUNE you too can look like a baller. Please, no more threads about trump. Thank you.

The move of the show from New York City to Los Angeles was so that Trump could explore his "West Coast business interests." That's where I began speculating that he would have an LA proposal for the season finale.

I too am not really a fan of Trump's skyscrapers. Though the ones in Chicago and Toronto are quite nice.

If I had to choose, I would've chosen James no doubt. He is simply much better than Stefani, I feel she only stepped up a couple of times, unlike James, who I feel was more involved in the whole interview prosses. Although she is a strong woman, I feel James has a lot more character.

^True. But you can't really blame Stefani for not stepping up. Keep in mind that this season had a new rule where the winning PM stays PM until they lose. James was forced to step up after his hard time in the boardroom in the previous week.

I'm glad he's leaving..frankly, Meruelo is WAY better than trump (for LA)...especially with that design of the new tower.

This was obviously a move by Trump to avoid his show being cancelled by NBC. So he went ahead and called it all off himself.
