From MysteryMan over on UT:
"I was talking to an someone involved on the R-A Centre, and it looks like the new Richmond Adelaide tower that was proposed for the corner at Adelaide and Sheppard is being completely redesigned. This is the office tower that was to include the facade of the historic Concourse building. The new tower has been moved to the north east corner of the block, at Richmond and Sheppard. The Concourse building will be retained in full, which is great.
No news on the height, design and possible future tenant of the new tower yet."

Is this maybe a new office tower to grace Toronto's sky? I will definitely go have a talk with the Muffin Lady - I'm sure she's informed - in full.

This is awesome news. Perhaps we can move it to the Construction section soon. I'll give this a banana :banana2:

I wonder why the change of location. Anyone want to put forth any theories? Could it be part of a bid to make it taller?

i don't see why we move rumours to the development forum. rumours should stay in the main toronto forum until it's official.

I think it would be mostly due to the "save the Concourse Building" lobby. It is one of our great deco buildings, and the destruction/facadism of this one would bring a lot of grief from every corner.
Also, it has been proven that these smaller heritage buildings can indeed be completely renovated and run profitably. And, their site does have room to build a new tower with proper sized floor plates. And having a nice new tower AND a nice heritage building is just better for the complex as a whole. I also imagine they could negotiate some juicy density increases with the city by restoring and retaining the Concourse building.
In this scenario, both the developer and the city come out ahead.

What is on the NE corner of Adelaide-Sheppard now? If I remember there is a small building there. i'm blanking out on exactly what is there though.

Directly north of the Concourse Building, is a large multi-story parking garage which should also be removed, giving more space for a separate tower.

Great --- that is one ugly garage. I remember it now.
I was told about three years ago that the city had plans for that garage to be demolished and turned into a park or greenspace. Sucker me believed him.
Go ahead, give me the gullible award.

I like KGB's theory. And at any rate, preserving the Concourse building AND getting a new tower is surely better than brutalizing a beautiful old building. I can't wait to see a proposal.

This project just got REALLY interesting, in my opinion! :D

the garage's coverage alone wouldn't be big enough to redevelop into a tower - the heritage mid-rise to its north would most likely be destroyed to save the concourse

Killing the Concourse Building would be a CRIME, that much is for sure.

http://toronto.virtualcity.ca/ is also a decent site to check. The only drawback is that you can't pan up.

Yeah, some updates would be nice.
I've never really known anything about this project when it was originally talked about, or now.

Have they announced any tenants? This tower, like BCE 3 and others, will happen, it's just a matter of when. With this new wave of towers downtown maybe the trend will continue. Here's hoping.

^ I'm hoping it will be taller. it all depends on the market can consume more office space.
