I have decided to create an additional subforum in here, as there is still more thread traffic than I am comfortable with right now on the main LA forum.

So, I am going to create a skybar for you guys. As is customary on SSC, the regional skybars are often given some sort of creative name, which is typycally locally significant. (like NYC's skybar forum is named 'Grand Central')

So, what sort of name would you like to see on this new subforum? What will say "LA", but be relevant to this site?

"Angels Flight" (aside from the funicular it's a real-life Skybar atop the Hyatt downtown), either that or "Angel's Nest"

~I need an agent*
~Let's do Lunch*
~Paper or plastic*
~Red Carpet*
~It's like, you know*

~Not on my Dollar*
~The Celebrity*
~Location,Location,Location*
~Martini Lounge*
~Tinseltown*
~A Grande Macchiato*
~Bling Bling*
~Under the knife*
~Hollywood Madam*

Just a few that came to mind. I know some are corny but who cares.

I think Sunset Strip and Sunset Blvd. are different.

Westsidelife
February 2nd, 2007, 08:19 AM
I don't think we should use names like "The Therapy Session," "I need an agent," and especially "Let's do lunch." I just don't know how that is something exclusive to Los Angeles nor do I think it applies to everyone. We need to come up with names that really symbolize LA like "Hollywood and Vine." NYC's skybar is called "Grand Central" which is in reference to Grand Central Terminal.

Fern~Fern*
February 2nd, 2007, 08:38 AM
I actually do like:

The Therapy Session~ That's so LA for one and everyone needs a shrink in LA.

I need an agent~ Hollywood Baby, no more to be said!

Let's do Lunch~That is used a lot to meet and chat!

If were going to call it after an intersection. Then call it Union and Wilshire then. That's in LA, right?

No one said it had to be political correct in the first place. So basically everyone is just throwing words around. No final decision has been made anyways.... Lighten Up Bud!

You're right! We've always been a forum that has been able to laugh and even poke fun at ourselves...you can even say that about the city of Los Angeles ...Sometimes its good to not take one self so seriously. Saves alot of visits to the shrink I tell ya..

By the way, those are some funny ones you came up with. I particularly like lostandjealous..In a city so GINORMOUS like ours..its easy for anybody to get lost in La-La Land and even be totally jealous of its 320 days a year of sunshine while trying to navigate the convoluted streets..:nocrook:

Now that's quintessentially Hollywood...

The first image that pops in to my head is Steven Spielberg driving down Sunset Blvd. in convertible with the top down, calling Tom Cruise on his cellphone and telling him about a big budget movie he's directing--"Tom! I've got a blockbuster movie coming up..so let's do lunch! Spagos..12:30 sharp!"... But I guess that can also be applied to most Angelenos...we certainly don't mind and many who aren't involved in the movie industry use that catchphrase...

From what I understand people around the world "do lunch" as well and some even have agents. This is not something exclusive to LA nor does it sum up Los Angeles...AT ALL. Sorry, but these are not "funny" if that is your aim. Klamedia, you don't have to worry about this forum becoming too "serious" for you. This forum has never been serious nor will it ever be. Don't let a name like "Angels Flight" which I happen to love scare you.

I really do like this one......

"Wilshire Boulevard"

re:
Wilshire Boulevard is the unofficial Main Street of dreams that flows through Los Angeles history. Like Los Angeles itself, Wilshire is an accidental phenomenon created out of civic pride and the yearning of the masses to drive. Its 15-mile route to the sea has been called the Fifth Avenue of the West and the Champs Elysees of the Pacific. Wilshire's style, architecture and historic prominence are recorded in more than 150 photos, so readers understand the fascinating cultural geography of the first auto-dependent metropolis. Wilshire Boulevard details the thoroughfare's crucial part in the emergence of Los Angeles as a world city and relates the fascinating story of Gaylord Wilshire, the turn-of-the-century social gadfly who never experienced his namesake's enduring fame.

There is no need for agreement or an expectation of agreement. I am simply looking for ideas to help me name the new forum something other than "skybar". If I can't find anything among the ideas posted in this thread, that I think folks will identify with, then the forum will indeed just be called "skybar".

and with that, I'm going to close the thread, as I have tons of ideas to work with... Thank you to all who contributed.
