Vancouver might host Junos in 2009

Vancouver (NEWS1130) - The 2009 Juno Awards may be coming to Vancouver. Nelly Furtado was host, performer and multiple Juno-winner at last Sunday's show in Saskatoon. Now the Pacific Music Industry Association says it's Vancouver's turn to play host to the Canadian music industry's annual awards show.
Executive Director Bob D'eith says it's just a matter of money. He said the total bid fee is a million dollars, and so far the province has promised to put up $650,000. D'eith says they are now asking Vancouver to come up with $350,000.
Vancouver city council will vote on Thursday on that funding request. D'eith said if the city doesn't come through, private sponsors will be needed to help secure the bid. After that's done, they have to raise another $300,000 to make the show happen.
Calgary hosts the show in 2008.
