Should be long beach.

"Galardi started his career in the fast-food business at age 12 as a soda jerk in Missouri. With his family he came to California at age 19 and, as fate would have it, got his first job from Glen Bell Jr., owner of Taco Bell.
'I went over and enrolled in Pasadena Junior College. I walked across the street and a guy was hosing the lot,' Galardi recalled. 'I said, 'Do you need any help?' Bell said he did and offered him a part-time job at 50 cents an hour. From this association, Galardi moved on to manage Bell's commissary at $150 a week and then into a partnership agreement with Bell to run a poor producing taco store.
Working two shifts, with his ex-wife working three part-time jobs, Galardi managed to save $6,000. Meanwhile, Bell was having financial problems and asked Galardi to loan him the $6,000. Bell was unable to pay back the loan in three months and instead offered to sell Galardi the store for $12,000 cash.
'So my folks borrowed $2,000 from Household Finance on their furniture, I let everybody go and I worked 30 days to get the other thousands and I paid $12,000 for a little taco store in Long Beach. That's how I got into the ownership position,' he said.
The next breakthrough came a couple years later when Galardi was approached by a man who wanted to build the hard-working Galardi a store on Pacific Coast Highway in Wilmington. It was next to one of Bell's taco stores.
Bell told Galardi to take the deal and sell something other than tacos. 'So I came up with hot dogs,' Galardi said. 'Nobody else was in hot dogs and Glen's wife named the company. I was at dinner one night at their house and Bell's wife was looking at a cookbook and said you ought to call it wienerschnitzel. I told my wife going home nobody in their right mind would call a company wienerschnitzel. Three days later, I said, 'Hell, it's better than John's Hot Dogs.'" (Orange County Business Journal Wienerschnitzel's John Galardi - No Ordinary Hot Dog. March 30, 1987)

Traffic Lights
First traffic lights generally believed to be in London outside the houses of Parliament. First electric lights in Berlin.

Billy Graham
If you mean Billy Graham the evangelist, he was born in North Carolina and his first church was in Illinois. He did have some early success in LA that ignited his career though. If you mean Bill Graham the rock promoter, he should also be credited to San Francisco.

Ouch! Such biting, caustic words directed at MR. Los Angeles! (Well, in my book he is) A position as a tour guide at
Universal Studios is like a slap on the Queen of England's face! Something so irreverant and disrespectful you cannot fathom him doing!!! SVS, deserves better than that I think. I'd promote him to the head of the L.A. Board of Tourism. How can you not? I'm convinced the guy practically knows every square inch of the city. Especially, after his huge photo/LA tour compilation. I would like to believe he's certainly more reliable than the GPS installed in my car.

Well, Ferney at least you didn't tell him to be tour guide of the JUNGLE CRUISE RIDE at Disneyland. That would be wayyy too offensive. Didn't your Mother teach you to respect your elders, Ferney?!!:baeh3: :)

[QUOTE=Elsongs;13586146]Started in SF.

In the late 1920s, Bank of Italy's Giannini approached Orra E. Monnette, President and founder of the Los Angeles based Bank of America, Los Angeles about a potential merger between the two entities. The Los Angeles based bank had exhibited strong growth throughout the 1920s, due in part to its success in developing an advanced bank branching system. The merger of the two institutions was completed in early 1929 and took the name Bank of America.

Did everyone forget that the SWAT team was invented in LA? It was the late 60s and the country was in turmoil. Criminals had gotten more violent and riots and super violent crime were prevalent. It was then that a young LAPD officer named Daryl Gates proposed that a small group of officers, preferably military vets with training in the armed forces, be formed to combat this new form of criminality with automatic weapons and other fomrs of modern weaponry. Thus the "Special Weapons Attack Team" was born. It was later changed to "Special Weapons and Tactics" because "attack team" just sounded too attackey.
