Thanks for starting this thread, Jaye.. this is a very cool old warehouse and I am happy it is being saved. I used to live in that area and I think it is a great neighbourhood. A bit dodgy, but close to downtown, and on the way up.

This building is right beside Regent Park, so the first people moving in are taking a bit of a risk but I'm sure it will pay off after Regent Park is re-developed. It will be a great place to live. I like the building, it's nice to see these old buildings being renovated and put to good use. I would have no quams about buying a condo here.

Isn't it just across River St. at Dundas? I thought Regent Park was on the other side of the street. I wonder if they will change the name of the neighbourhood once it's redeveloped? Regent Park has such a stigma, it will be hard to change the image associated with that name. ( although it is a rather classy sounding name)

It's beside the humane society and right across from the beer store.

I used to live on Sumach... that little sidestreet with the beerstore at the end.
Every day people would schlepp up and down the street with their noisy little Granny Carts laden with Labatt's Blue, or empties!

hmmm...
Let's keep the name.
I agree. It would be stupid to change the name. Stigmas change over time, especially after areas are redevloped and/or gentrified. Examples are Queen West, Yorkville, and Cabbagetown.
Changing the name would be a detriment to the community, implying they couldn't change the stigma for themselves and needed to be "helped out" of it. Give the area the chance, and it will have that much more character.
Plus, I don't think it could be that easily changed to begin with. There would be too much opposition from the public, especially since the name has been used for so long. It would be akin to throwing away the area's history.

No, you can't change the name of the neighbourhood. Regent Park is a fine name, and the stigma will disappear fast enough.

I'm keeping my name "Mollywood" which refers to Toronto's gay village and the popular gay channel I had on Youtube (MollywoodTO) before the homophobes at Youtube killed it, along with my 2000 subscribers. Damn them! I like the name, I live on Church St. and I'm a big Molly, so the name lives on. I still have MollywoodTV and Torontovibe as Youtube Channels, if anybody wants to see gay themed videos or Toronto centric stuff.
Now for some urban talk, I was thinking of the wrong loft building last time. I know these ones too. They are in a strange location, beside the Humane Society. I think people in Toronto will buy condo almost anywhere. Have you guys seen all the crack whorse on River St? That's right near Corktown, so after all that new development (including 4 new loft buildings) the street might turn around.
I have 69 posts? And still not a whole lot of important things to say. lol Damn, I wish I has some hot insider news but all I have are opinions and we all know how that joke goes. I wanna start contributing pics (at least be of some use here) or maybe make videos of new construction, since I am basically surrounded by it. If I could just figure out how to post a video on here. (I'm useless with stuff like that) Can I post it on my torontovibe channel on Youtube and link it here?
