This Hilton Garden Inn is another project to join the recent tide of of hospitality developments in the downtown entertainment district. Fourteen guest room floors accommodate different room types with a total key count of 224.A variety of amenities are allocated on the first two floors to serve the guests, including a full day restaurant, a bar, a pantry, conference rooms, an exercise room, and an indoor swimming pool. A dramatic all-glazed two-storey lobby draws inspiration from the prototypical Hilton pavilion and gives a warm welcome to guests entering the hotel from Peter Street. Two car elevators, operated by valets, are used to access the three levels of underground parking. The exterior of the building show a strong reference to the site context, rich with brick as cladding material the facades are sculpted and crafted into several masses of differed scales and materials and allows the building to blend into the streetscape. Modern glass panels are integrated with local red bricks to add interest and richness to the building.

Based on the renderings, I don't hate it, but i don't love it either :P

^I disagree. The inner city could definitely use some low to mid-range (long term) hotel accomodations and while the architecture is less than spectacular, it's still is one of the nicest of this class of hotel I've seen around NA (same goes for the Marriott on Wellington)

... how do you figure this is wasted?

It's a hotel - better than a condo!

I wished they had a better design that stood out. If I was looking for a hotel in that area and saw a unique looking building, I would check it out for sure. The same can probably said about the large amounts of tourists that visit the city from all over the world.

can't agree with you there otherwise the Bond Street Hotel with its good location and great price wouldn't be fully leased months in advance

in any case, this hotel is more in tune to the corporate client where the bottom line is king

Great pic's. Thanks for posting. This project will add some good density to the area, if nothing more.

Agree with your first statement, but we should never be satisfied with mediocre architecture. I wouldn't even be as polite as to call it 'nice', as you have done.

Just because it's nice compared to others you've seen around North America means nothing. If they stink does that mean we should build ones that do too? That's a lemming mentality. We're smart enough and confident enough to recognize quality when we see it. We don't need to keep tabs on what the rest of North America is doing to figure this out by ourselves.

This building is an underwhelming yawn designed to fulfill the minimal requirements of the hotel. Architecture should inspire and lift one's spirits. It can beautify and be impactful in people's lives. This building falls so short of these aspirations it's depressing.

Why do people settle for things that are just OK? Do you want a plain boyfriend? Or a sexy one? Do you want a Maserati or a Chevrolet? Do you want a vacation to Tahiti or one to Scarborough? Same goes for buildings. Makes my eyes glaze over in a nano second when people settle for plain boring nothingness. I guess I will never understand that line of thinking.

I've seen much worse than this hotel, but that's not good enough.

What's with the massive white box on top of the building? That's a pretty poort excuse for mechanical covering, if that's what it is.

Whoever approved this design must be blind. It's just tacky and cheesy.

Now if we can get rid of the parking lot in the last pic.

Should be gone in a year or so. They're building Charlie condos there.

I still want to know what they're gonna build in the lot the picture was taken from. The south-east corner of King & Spadina. There was/is a car rental place there. Anyone know?

The Budget car rental building on the south-east corner of King & Spadina has been demolished and they are getting ready to build a one storey LCBO (415 King St) on that lot.

A one-storey LCBO? That's crazy. Why such low density? Why aren't people fighting it the same way they fight Shoppers for doing the same thing?

... someone say another Liqour Store???? wooooo hoooooo

Let the drinking begin.

Clearly the LCBO plans all new stores by maps.

A better location would be on Front Street near John - as to capture people walking home to City Place

King looks centred - but it's a bit too far north for where all the consumers really live.

This is a real charmer if you are into vintage posh. Although from far away it blends in quite acceptably.

Hope the final thing will look better.

Notice that there are no windows on the entire backside, and it's not for architectural benefit either.

The ass has windows to be installed and as to the side, well, few infill towers have them. This one is certainly is not turning out as well as I had hoped but can't really complain too much. A much needed affordable hotel on an awkward site formerly occupied by a parking lot probably since the dawn of time.
