Yeah, the young woman holding the birds told us that the turkey vulture is now see in southern BC... I think they also may have moved into southern Ont.

Anyway more regarding the desert... actually, the southern Okanagan doesn't quite qualify as desert... it has around 12 inches of ppt./year... just over the definition... places like Devon Is. in the Arctic archipeligo are deserts... it's so dry there that it's used as a stand in for Mars!

Here's a map that shows NA's desert areas (not including the Arctic):

This is Osoyoos' brand new visitor centre:

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1016/1298443484_64a165aab0_b.jpg

Take a look at the material used for the table tops in that building; they called it petrified river bottom (IIRC):

On the right, you can see the antelope bush... very rare in Canada:

This is the first and only Indian owed winery (in partnership with other companies)... and they grow their own grapes. The word is pronounced "Ink-a-meep". This band is very much into business... they are likely the best band in Canada.

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1338/1297731629_b842c8099b_b.jpg

The winery has an outdoor restaurant... they have a sign warning patrons about rattlesnakes.

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1382/1297733115_3e7d306632_b.jpg

In partnership with government the band (Osoyoos Indian Band) operates timeshares right next door to the winery.

Very Impressive Oceanmdx!
Your window on British Columbia is awesome! My first post on this site was British Columbia vs Queensland in Austrialia.
I had been there and knew which was better! Your window on B.C. proved it!

That's B.C.'s Okanagan Valley, it has a Mediterranean climate....we make very good winery there, lots of orchards as well. There are also deserts here.

That photo was taken from Osoyoos, British Columbia.... it is in the southern part of the Okanagan Valley.... the climate is semi-arid.

All the photos are from the province of British Columbia, which is a province of Canada (the furthest to the west).

The Ancient Forest Trail

Antique Forest Stands in B.C.'s Inland Rainforest.

As Pacific storm systems sweep over the interior mountain ranges of British Columbia they create a zone of elevated precipitation. In the watershed of the upper Fraser River this has given rise to a unique inland wet-temperate rainforest; a forest ecosystem that combines attributes of both the coastal wet-temperate rainforests of British Columbia and adjacent boreal forests of Alberta and the far north.

Don't just take my word for it. Click on the link and see for yourself.

Actually, you should have said, "inland temperate rainforests". There are many "inland rainforests".... but they are tropical rather than temperate.

Sorry, didn't think I really need to worry about that as BC is not in the tropics.

Sorry, didn't think I really need to worry about that as BC is not in the tropics.

LOL... and Brazil, the Congo, Peru... and a long list of other countries that have inland rain forests are not in the temperate zone.

Most of the pictures posted here are gorgeous... Hopefully I can go on Vancouver island and some other island soon! I want to see all these huge trees there!
I went today to Whistler with my company, and OMG, the view you have to drive there is just so amazing... I won't post any pictures since they aren't very good and you probably see some similar thousand of times, but BC is really a great place to live in... when it's sunny :)
