Holy shit that is pretty crazy! No wonder people who haven't been here for ten or 15 years always remark that they can't barely recognize the place anymore.

This picture is nuts.

The Coal Harbour transformation is astounding. I lived there from 1997 to 2004 and during that time five buildings went up immediately adjacent to my place, as in beside or kitty corner, never mind all the others within a few block radius. It was a neat time though. I was one of the first people to try out the Harbour Green Park seawall. I wandered by on my way home one night after work and it was open and this wasn't the case earlier that evening. Neat memories.

I used to live in the Coal Harbour from 97-03, and I can't remember a time where there wasn't any construction going on on at least one side of the building I was living in. In fact, in one period of time, there was construction on all 3 sides! Too bad I left once most of the nearby construction was done, but the rent was going through the roof...

We've come so far but we've got so far to go (for those Hairspray fans out there). I think the transformation is great and I'm so proud of Vancouver. I do think we should not lose focus though as we're not quite there yet aren't we? There's still a lot of 'crap' in Vancouver (and no, I'm not talking about DTES).

Wow, it is mind boggling to think that just a few years ago, one of the most beautiful scenic vistas in the world within a major city was so under utilized.
A parking lot for Safeway truck trailers?
Unbelievable.

Incredible how the tallest buildings depicted here have been eclipsed by several others and no longer stand out in the skyline. What a difference a decade makes.

I continue to be disappointed that TWENTY YEARS after Expo '86 almost nothing has been done to the north east section of False Creek (yes, I know another project has been proposed) and only now the southern shore is being developed into the Olympic Village. In addition, the Plaza of Nations is a dump and the BC Pavilion is now a casino, of all things.

I know that there were issues with contaminated soil and several projects for the area came and went, but it's just silly that it's taken this long to build anything.
