Hello everyone,
I wanted to see if I could have some feedback from the people who live in the area, I'm coming to visit. I'm planning a trip in a few weeks( for late January) to Vancouver. The plan is to fly either directly to Vancouver or fly into Seattle stay a night or two there and drive up to Vancouver. I'm planning on going up to Whistler from Vancouver for a night or two as well to ski.
If you could let me know of some places I definetly need to see, things I definetly need to do, or restaurants I definetly need to dine at, it would be greatly appreciated. I will take in a Canucks game as well if I can get tickets.
Any comments . . .

Hello everyone,
I will take in a Canucks game as well if I can get tickets.
You will have to purchase tix through a broker, on craigslist or from a scalper at the game (there are always plenty). Canucks games have been sold out for past 4 seasons or so. You can also try through ticketmaster as season ticket holders are able to release tix back to the canukcs, which are then resold via ticketmaster.

I think a must see for anyone visiting Vancouver would be the 'Dr Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden'. It's the first full-scale Chinese garden built outside of China, the last one being built over a hundred years ago in China. 52 master craftsmen from Suzhou built it in the style of a Ming Dynasty scholars garden. Vancouver was chosen over 50 other cities.
It's located in Chinatown which is right beside Downtown which is a about a 10-15 min. walk. Or you can take the Skytrain from Granville Stn downtown(which is underground) 1 stop to Stadium-Chinatown Stn. and then walk 2 blocks to the garden. I think the main bit is still free but the rest is approx $8.
Another thing you could do is take a Chinatown walking tour. SUNDAY NIGHT WALKING TOURS- spend an evening with well known Vancouver Historian John Atkins as he guides you on a tour of the shops and markets of Chinatown's unique street scenes. Tour time is from 7 -8:30 pm. For tickets call (604) 662 3207 ext 205 All tickets are $12.Tour starts from the front gate of the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden and finishes at the edge of the Chinatown Night market.

you could check out Grouse Mountain for the view
be sure to ch3eck out the seawall at english bay, grab a hot something at Delaneys on Denman and hit the wall for a stroll
check out coal harbour and the seawall stroll - there is a restaurant at the park that always looks busy - never tried it but might be good for a quick lunch
granville island is a nice spot - i believe in January its closed on mondays - the market part anyway - so be sure to go when the complete market is open - you can use one of the ferries to get there from yaletown/seawall
keep in mind most stores close early here like 6 pm - only stay open late on thurs - friday - so don't be surprised if in a store to hear them say they are closing in 5 minutes
some of the bigger chains on Robson do stay open later - like HMV, Gap - but its odd for someone used to having shops open till 9 pm most days - Metrotown is i think the only mall open till 9 pm 6 days a week and a lot of suburban big box stores stay open later should you want to plan how you shop - like Chapters on Robson is open until 10 pm so you can enjoy it after the other stores have closed up
a cool asian mall to check out is aberdeen in Richmond, and next to it is parker place and well the area is surrounded by Asian malls - if you want to see the "new" china town thats where to head
a pretty good restaurant is Subeez about a block south of the library - the chicken and brie sandwich is always my fave
check out the drive - has some popular food places - if you like Indian food tandoori palace is pretty good - the naan is great

and if you wanted to see a movie here a pretty good deal is the burger/movie combo at Triple o's/White spot - you get a movie ticket and burger combo for about $12 which is pretty good considering the movie ticket is $11.95 at scotiabank theatre

^^Oh, White Spot...I just got back from my Vancouver trip, and now I'm craving for a Monty Mushroom Burger.
I can't emphasize enough how much I miss the milder (albeit grey and wet) weather over the frigid icy-snowiness of Ontario :(

That's if you're fortunate enough to get here on a clear day.
In fact, I'd recommend getting some scenic short-course skiing done there as a prelude to the real deal up at Whistler.
