A great development to liven the downtown Bloor Strip.
Rotterdam meets Yorkville! Whats not to love?

Apparently it is to go beside the Collonade.

Thanks for the tip... those flash sites are wildly irritating and slow to navigate, but worth the wait! Nice little project, and will look superb beside the Collonade... will really add to the nabe, which is becoming quite an exclusive little enclave to live with all these new projects going up.

Looks decent. Not a fan of the base, and it seems a little stumpy though.

This looks to be 15 stories, should be in High-Rise Developments, btw.

I hope they apply for a height increase considering its prominent location. The base could be a little more classy IMO but keep in mind that white stuff is marble and retail examples isn't shown. Also I hope those panels are grey NOT brown.

Btw is this repacing a little black modernist office building? I think it must be.

This is actually only a recladding/office-condo conversion of the existing building occupying that spot.

Thanks Taller! Maybe that would also explain why the base seems to large.

It's the black TD-looking one with the Cole Haan, Rolex and Royal de Versailles.

I kinda like the existing building...seems unfortunate to have to mess with it.

In a way I agree with you... it is a nice looking International Style building... clean lines and sleek in its own way. There are certainly worse buildings around that would benefit from recladding.

that's odd. i was expecting a much worse looking building to be re-done. the new proposal looks good though so it doesn't really matter.

I was expecting a much worse building, too.... I like the simple and clean elegance of this black building, but "simple" and "clean" are not qualities currently in favour at the moment. Can think of many others I would rather see re-clad.

So it's just a recladding? Is it going to remain office then, too?
I like that they're going to make the retail 2 floors. Adds a bit of prestige to the base.

And don't forget "boxy"...many people seem to have a visceral dislike of straight lines and right angles.

Wow, you'd think it would almost be easier to tear it down and start again.
However, I'm sure they know what they're doing. But comparing the base of both buildings, and the window lay out, it seems like they'll have to adjust some major aspects of this building.

I used to work in that building and always thought it was a very attractive one. The Danish restaurant at street level also made really good open-faced sandwhiches. But I guess it isn't trendy enough for the Mink Mile crowd on Bloor St.

hope no one graffittis "tokyo" all over it.
Are you kidding? The place is already littered with Tokyo marketing (you know: New York Paris London Tokyo San Francisco....Toronto).
Why would anyone prefer the retail cheese eater tagging and not like the Grange rendition? You have to admit that the graffiti version is much more authentic.
I hope you are starting to see the taunting genius behind it.
