Two Prudential Plaza
Chicago, USA
HEIGHT: 303m/995 feet
FLOORS: 64 floors
COMPLETION: 1990
ARCHITECT: Loebl, Schlossman & Hackl
The Prudential Plaza redevelopment project sparked new vitality for the immediate area with renovation of the existing 41-story One Prudential Plaza; construction of a new 64-story, 1.2 million square foot Two Prudential Plaza; design of a one-acre outdoor plaza; and a new five-level, underground parking garage. The two buildings share a common lobby and matching architectural elements at the entrance level. Two Prudential Plaza, the tallest reinforced concrete building in North America, has been honored with eight awards.

It looks good from some angles only..but i feel its still rather chunky. Being next to the Aon Center just doesnt help its spire break into the skyline well.

I second that notion.
Anyway, I rated 2 Pru over on WSF before it shut down. And I gave it something like a 8.5/10, so that's what it'll get now.

I like it. The design makes sense, it is both axial and symetrical, depending upon your perspective. It is one of the few glassy towers to come during this time that actually had some "depth" to its facade. I also appreciate its very prominent status in Chicago's skyline, even though it is nowhere near being the tallest.

7.5/10 - Nice, sleek facade, with enough glass to really dance with the light, and I like the contrasting strips racing up centers of the sides. This won major points.
I appreciate the attempt to move beyond the box, but both roof and setbacks could have been done better - they don't add to the tower's sense of height as much as they could.
I think they could have used some setbacks further down to make the tower slimmer, and they could have done something with the roof to make it look slimmer as well...They also could have put setbacks on all four sides...

yes the spire is short but the rest of the design for this Chi-town scraper is excellent..who wouldn't want this building in their skyline..??..a pleasing building to look at from the setbacks to the top....9/10

This building looks alright. However I like other spired building better such as 1 Liberty Place and the Key Tower. It appears a lot shorter than 995 feet. Maybe, it's just that it's dwarfed by the Aon building. Could have looked better if built in an other location.

I usually dont rate a building much on its actual height, but I would give this guy a 9.5 or 10 if it was only 30 or 40 meters higher. Nice elegant building, I really like the facade, the shape and the spire. Would be nice if it was even close to the height of the Aon center (what a combo that would be), but maybe I shouldnt be so harsh since that was an economics design? Oh well, I will be.

I hate this building
Very unnatural looking, very awkward
The way it lights up at night is also dreadful
The worse supertall (well almost supertall) in the world in my opinion
My namesake, Liberty Two in Philadelphia, reminds me a lot of this building, but LIberty Two pulls it off much better, it has teh same design, but more natural curves and setbacks, plus the spire is reduced and remains just a light beacon
3/10 if for nothing else the height

7/10. I like some of the architechture but not all. I wish the whole building had setbacks and not just 2 sides. I like the spire but I dont think it matches the rest of the building well. I wish the whole building was that white color. And I think the line of blue glass in the middle looks weird with the set backs.
Still, it is an impressive building (although I don't like the way it fits in with its surroundings, this is 1 building that would look better surrounded by smaller buildings).

It looks good from some angles only..but i feel its still rather chunky. Being next to the Aon Center just doesnt help its spire break into the skyline well.
I agree with you here. It is hard to imagine a 303 metre 'scraper being overshadowed but this one is. It is beside what is my favourite CHI building and the Aon simply commands the eye leaving this building looking surprisingly dwarfish for its huge height.
It's quite good looking in itself but being overshadowed reduces an 8 to a 7.

With AON center dwarfing it its hard to Imagine it is actually #25 on the list of the world's tallest (as of Jan 2006). But you can't always be the tallest ---- Nice architecture, bit bulky on the side... 8/10

Looks great from a distance. To me the only real negative are the "setbacks" on the facade. 8.0/10

One of Chicagos best! Heres a pic from Cbotnyse at ssp who I think works in the aon center (it was taken from the Aon center though)
