This bridge was quite impressive to drive over on my way to Boston. The giant flag is quite appropriate for it.
As far as all the bridges I've traveled over, only the Golden Gate rivals the George Washington Bridge.

The Köhlbrandbrücke bridge has a neat design, although i'm seeing that general shape a lot in recent years, seems to be a trend.... tokyo, Hamburg, boston, prolly elsqhere too.... but I really like the earlier-posted George Washington bridge.... the towers are kinda busy, but it's neat that they suspended a double-deck roadway like that....

I also like the MacArthur Causeway, one of many causeways (bridges) that cross Biscayne Bay connecting Miami mainland with Miami Beach. This causeway in particular connects the Downtown Miami area to the urban oasis of SoBe (South Beach). Those extraordinary houses are on the lucrative islands that populate the bay, and the buidlings in the distance are the hotel and condo highrises on northern Miami Beach. This bridge is gridlocked every weekend night with expensive cars, music blasting, hot people. Distinctly Miami.

Nope!
Hamburg has more bridges than Amsterdam and Venice together (no matter how small or ugly they are ;) ).
Hamburg: 2485 bridges
Amsterdam: 1539 bridges, 252 of them in the city centre
Venice: 446 bridges
In terms of bridges per capita Venice has the most bridges.

Do elevated expressways have their own category in terms of bridges? Why are they not more represented in 'longest bridges' lists? Wasn't someone saying there is an elevated expressway that is 50 kms long in Sth Korea? I know they are not architecturally exciting, but does anyone know what the longest ones are?

This is how Indonesia build their bridges, due to limited space, they build it vertically with the street, and they turn it after its done (yep, you read it correctly).

This bridge is simply called Interstate Bridge. Its actually two bridges--one for each direction (one was built in 1917 and one in 1958).
"The Columbia River Interstate Bridge. Total length of bridge and approaches 4 1/2 miles. Completed January, 1917. Total cost $1,750,000. The bridge over the Columbia River, 3531 ft. long, consists of one 50 ft. span, three 275 ft. spans, and ten 265 ft. spans; and contains 7,350 tons of steel, 17,650 sq. yds. of reinforced concrete deck, 15,000 sq. yds of pavement, 21600 cu. yds. of piers supported on piles extending to 160 ft. below roadway. The towers extend to 190 ft. above Roadway."

The Alex Fraser in greater Vancouver and the Pierre LaPorte in the Quebec city area are the two Major freeway bridges of Canada. The Pierre LaPore is the longest suspension bridge in the country and crosses the St. Lawrence, and the Alex Fraser, crossing the Fraser River was the longest cable stayed bridge when it was completed, though today I doubt it is even in the top ten. Each bridge has six lanes. The Quebec bridge, the world's longest cantilever span is directly beside the Pierre LaPorte and is a Railroad and local road bridge. Hope this works, I've never posted pics before.

Wow! That's the first time I've ever heard of the Aqueline and it looks amazing. It looks somewhat similiar to the Chesapeake Bay bride/tunnel in the states. I wonder what the advantage of building combination above/below surface structures is. Would it cost much more to build a comparable structure entirely above ground with an elevated section to allow ships to pass? I'd imagine the body of water being spanned can't be exceptionally deep or this method wouldn't be possible.

Yeah, it is empty. The builders used too much money to make the bridge, and as a result, the fares got higher. Regular cars have to pay 3,000 yen (USD $30ish, a bit smaller, depending on the exchange rate), while motorcycles and the like pay 2,400 yen ($24ish)

Chicago-
Chicago skyway(formerly and possibly once again I-90), the only bridge that connects the city of Chicago with the state of Indiana, 10 miles(I think) total(the bridge part of it spanns across the calumet river). A very UGLYbridge, but is improving. I was they would trash the bridge and make a 10 mile suspension bridge. Somewhat reminds people of the Bay Bridge in SF, Oakland (the old oakland portion)

According to this site (http://www.tkk.fi/Units/Departments/R/Bridge/longspan.html) and the book "The Top Ten of Everything" (1998 Edition) the Alex Fraser is no longer a top ten cable stayed bride (unless by "type" you were refering to another category). However, the Port Mann is the tenth longest steel arch span in the world.
Although the Lions Gate Bridge is famous, it isn't actually a freeway bridge since like the Ambassador Bridge it isn't a controlled/limited access expressway. There are two freeway bridges in Canada that I omitted in my previous post. In Halifax, the four lane A. Murray MacKay Bridge or "the new bridge" as it is sometimes refered to locally, and the six lane Pont Champlain bridge/causeway crossing the St.Lawrence @ Montreal. I believe there are still a few more including the MacDonald Cartier Bridge in Ottawa, the Burlington Bay Skyway, and a couple more connecting Montreal island to the mainland but these aren't as large.

^ Sorry, the Alex Fraser is the longest bridge of its type in North America, not the world. I included the Lions Gate Bridge because it is part of highway 99.

Highway 99 is weird, it goes all the way up the west coast from California as the I5 then it becomes highway 99 in Canada. It goes through 3 Vancouver suburbs as a freeway and then becomes city streets at Vancouver proper, signs mark Grandville and Georgia street as hwy99 and direct you over the Lions Gate bridge and onto the Sea to Sky HWY which is highway number 99.

I am afraid to say that the Chicago Skyway bridge is the ugliest and most depressing that I have ever been on.
There are many truss bridges that are none too pretty throughout North America and the rest of the world. But none of them go on interminably over vast tracks of polluted industrial swamps quite like that one -- not even the ones in New Jersey.

The Kingston Bridge, Glasgow (UK)
Width: 10 lanes + 1 service lane
Facts:
-Busiest road bridge in Europe
-The bridge is used by the M8, one of Europes widest and busiest motorways/freeways
-Was originally designed to carry 150,000 vehicles a day. It now carries roughly 60,000 vehicles per hour (mostly at peak times, of course)
-It has been strengthened twice, and has been raised up ~1m due to the increased weight of vehicles making it sink into the river bed.
-A new 4 lane bridge is being constructed near-by to deal with the ever increasing traffic load across the Kingston Bridge.

Ahh the Kingston Bridge how many hours of my life have I spent on it! Amazingly given how busy it is its not even a full access bridge - imagine how busy it would be if was full access and they joined the M74 directly onto the end of it! I think they should whack another 3 lanes each way onto it!
