The Overseas Union Bank is located in Singapore's financial centre. The plinth of the tower establishes a relationship with Raffles Place, whose subterranean level contains the central underground connection. Raffles Place, which is to be developed as a green area, and the OUB Centre constitute the core of the Singapore development zone. Situated below the tower is the prestigious bank lobby, whose 36m high entrance area creates a vista taking in the OUB, Raffles Place and Singapore River.

The building is subdivided into two clearly distinguished volumes: a lower and higher tower standing back-to-back. Each tower stands on a triangular plan. A particularly impressive feature is the entrance with its almost 40m high atrium providing an exciting view of the surrounding area.

Anyway I like this building because it looks like a cardboard propped up against the sky from a front angle. That last picture reminded me of the time I went right up to the corner and stared up..feeling dizzy inevitably!

It was the tallest building in Asia upon completion and dominated Singapore's skyline for quite some time.

Great sharp angles piercing the sky. Too much bare space making the windows seem teeny, even though they're not. The sheen on the cladding is quite nice.

Tange is a brutalist, and not a favourite one at that. I prefer his later Tokyo City Hall project.

6/10 - It really soars skyward, and the shape is nice and crisp.
However, the facade is dull and forbidding, and doesn't seem to dance with the light; those groups of little windows remind me of the holes in a cheese grater. It would also have been nice if they'd done at least a little bit of something with the top roof.

Great building. I like the metallic shine of the building, gives it a modern, industrial feel, and sets it apart from other buildings. The two tower design is nice at the bottom, but it makes the top part seem to thin. I like the imposing facade because everything in Asia these days seems to be mostly glass, and I think a city needs a variety of buildings. Also, the entryway is great as well.
