Nice tower, though it looks commerical more than residential to me.
10/10 for being the WTRB.
Congratulation, Dubai! :)
BTW, the side view in the first pic reminds me of the Shun Hing Square in Shenzhen.

Looks boring from three sides and tacky from one side. All shapes seem to have been chosen pretty much at random and the "3+1" effect makes it a messy tower alltogether.

It only looks good from one angle. Otherwise the parts seem poorly coordinated and the spire seems awkwardly placed. Still, I like the slimness and height.

5.5/10 could have been much better with its height. Plus I don't like its spire, which was placed for cheating (in order to become the world's tallest res. building). Tower Palace 3's roof height (264m) is much higher than this building and Triumph Palace's.

This one is hard to "wrap my eyes around"...
The blue glass curtainwall and the silver "sail" go well together, and look like they can really dance with the light; it's also slim enough to have good height, especially from certain angles.
But somehow it doesn't seem to hold together; it has so many sections going every which way that it's downright confusing. And that squarish, cement "spire" not only doesn't go with the rest of the tower at all; it looks like somebody didn't take the time to finish it!

this building makes a good advert, but wouldnt it block the windows?
AltinD
February 24th, 2005, 05:24 PM
^ Not at all. This is the same technology that is used on ads on public buses or other cars. That technique started in US somewhere in late '90 and here kas become very popular.
The only problem is that here the bulding facades are not iluminated, and becouse of the tinted windows, they appear dark in the night. The add is not visible at all during the night.
The special film is transparent from one side and it will not block the view at all. It may darken a little but here, darkening of the windows, no mater jow small, is = to less light and HEAT inside, so it will be appreciated.

7/10. This building is definately designed to be looked at from one side only. The front view is fantastic but the rear view looks like a rectangle with an unwanted appendage, which of course is exactly what it is....

Wow, great reason to give this building a 10/10! Nevermind the fact that it has an incongrous mix of textures and shapes and an absolutely inane concrete slab for a top because hey! This is the world's tallest residential building! And that totally compensates for all of the building's shortcomings!
But not really. And by the way, I am so glad that there are people that vote this way; now I know how trivial these polls can get and how utterly hollow half of the votes actually are. Give me a break.

Oh I see, because the number of one's posts is the definitive factor when determining the worth or the soundness of someone's statement. That makes complete sense...
I personally feel that giving a building a "perfect" rating because it is the tallest residential building in the world is ridiculous. The number of posts I have made on this particular forum is completely irrelevant to that matter.

I know it's not perfect. Still looks pretty good though. Would give it a good 7 or 8 out of 10. Don't think it's the pure piece of shit you're making it out to be. If you don't like this tower then it's fine though.

I don't think I ever really insinuated enough to make it sound like I thought it was a piece of shit, but that's ok. I suppose my review might make it sound that way to someone else. I just find it easier to articulate the negatives of things. There are still some good things about this building, but I would still only give it a 6 or so, ESPECIALLY when relativized among all of the world's towers of which there are just too many great ones to give this building that much for itself.

The number of posts may be irrevelant in regard to someones opinions, but SURELY is relevant when it comes to refrain yourself from the rudiness and arrogance, your statements seams to radiate.

Personally, I would say that my statement was a strong one, rather than an arrogant one, and that it was judiciously based. I have been visiting this forum for two years, yet only recently have I become a member and made any posts. I first started posting in this thread because it interested me, and I was disappointed to find a lack of integrity in the ways that a lot of people vote. Granted, people can vote how they want, but it would be much more worthwhile for me if critiques were just a little more thought out, but I suppose that may sound like an arrogant request to some, and I accept that.

i agree with you , but most people , including me , take a look at the height, a tall tower is always impressive, then at the pictures, a day, a night , a close up, and they get an impression this should be a 7 or 8 or whatever, so i'd say it is rather a subjective vote without any "reasons".
surely the height of a building is important, this is a SKYscraper forum, the closer to the sky the better.
so there is a certain point in voting 10 for being the WTRB if it is not totally ugly, and it certainly isn't.
no matter how many posts you have, the statement was rather rude.

21st Century Tower, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Core, Slabs and Facade in a 3-Day Cycle
269 m High Apartment Block
The 21st Century Tower with its 53 storeys, approx. 400 apartments and a total height of 269 m, is another constructional highlight along the Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai.
PERI Dubai (http://www.perime.com) was commissioned to provide a formwork solution which enabled the contractors to fulfill the high requirements and also the tight construction schedule.
Using experience from various successful projects in the past, such as the National Bank of Dubai headquarters and the Emirate Tower, PERI engineers developed a clearly defined concept for this ambitious project.
Using ACS self-climbing technology, the VARIO girder wall formwork for the rectangular core climbed crane-independently from storey to storey. CB 240 climbing brackets and VARIO were used for the facades. The facade formwork could be retracted on the brackets for striking and then moved as a unit to the next storey by crane which saved a lot of time. MULTIFLEX slab formwork on PD 8 shoring towers for the slabs of the service and maintenance floor completed the PERI formwork programme used in this successful project.
Thus, the contractors could achieve the planned 3-day cycle for one complete 1,350 m² floor.
Contractor: Joint Venture Arabtec Construction and Al Rostamani Pegel
Field Service: PERI VAE, Dubai (http://www.perime.com)

I noticed that in this part of the world- those blue elements are very popular, and most of the new bulidings must have it somewhere in the elevation. It's nice, but the shape isn't spectacular and original enough to rate this building with high grade. 7/10

It is OK as such but it's Dubai guys...its crappy, mine is bigger than yours, inferiority complex driven, ersatz, kitsch Dubai.
The building is a 6 dragged down to a 5 by being in the most pointless spot on Earth.

7/10 not very convenient as a residential bldg. I stayed there for about 2 yrs, there was about 1200 residents in the bldg and you could not open any window in the whole bldg. This was quite bad, its fine in a hotel or office but sometimes when u come home u would like some fresh air especially with the nice dubai wethear from oct to apr.
Pool was on the 53rd floor but had a massive wall surrouning the whole pool area, so nothing special in terms of view.
