This 66-storey building gathers its meaning by incorporating distinctive elements of Chicago architecture. The structure, which is clad in a cream-coloured limestone and light reflective green glass, has a tripartite composition: the base is a street-defining mass, the middle or tower portion achieves the vertical striation, and the top terminates with four corner pavilions and lanterns. The design honours Chicago's tradition of scale and enclosure by placing volumes of low proportion directly along North Michigan Avenue.

The texture and rich detail of the base, composed of granite, marble and limestone, addresses the pedestrian. The portal of the building's Michigan Avenue facade opens into a six-storey retail atrium shopping mall with a series of public spaces shaped by interpretative decorated surfaces.

Situated above the retail base are the two public floors of the Chicago Four Seasons Hotel, 20 office floors, 17 hotel guest room floors, and 19 residential apartments on the top floors.

Wow. I've walked by this building so many times before and never noticed:
1)how freaking HUGE it is

It's a very nice looking building, and it definitely adds something to the Chicago skyline. However, it is a bit chunky looking at the base, and the setback seems to be at an odd interval (probably denotes a sky lobby, but still)... I think they could have done a bit better with the building's looks overall.

8.5/10 - THe tower soars nicely (the indentations on its wide faces help), and the 4 spires provide a nice balance. I also give credit for setbacks. But the base itself is a bit clunky, not designed as well as the tower.

It was going to give it an 8 because it has soaring height, the facade is extremely clean and nice, BUT I changed my score when I saw the base. Big dissapointment. The slimness should have been brought down to streetlevel instead of in a concrete box. Still a great building though, I give it a 7.

I gave it a ten, because i like its elegance. i especially like the four lanterns at the top. I also like the way its light beige color stands out against the black steel of the John Hancock. Driving down Lakeshore Drive, you sure can't miss this massive structure.

It is yet another great chicago skyscraper!!

A better than average building. I like the shape, especially the double spires and the top. Imposing and large, done very well. I like the mix of vertical to horizontal stripes on the building, but in the end the facade is too busy for me. Also I dont like the colors. A building looks best in only one or two.

A good attempt at getting a retro and classy look without falling in the tacky :-)
The 4 little features at the top have a nice cladding, the colors and the materials of the facade are good, it manages to soar nicely without getting boring.
The night lighting is good as well. IMO one of the most recognizable buildings in Chicago skyline. And in a nice way.
